that GM is in charge of the offense and is the receiver coach and both areas of our game have been performing woefully below expectations. I don't think so. But let's assume GM is not to blame. Then look at it from the next level of scrutiny. The offense is broken. It's performance is terrible. Even if GM is not responsbile, if he can't fix it, or at the very least make it respectable and competitve, then Shaefer needs to find someone that can.
Same analysis with Hunt. This was to be his year. He had a year leading the scout team. Last year, he got tremendous game experience throughout the year. This year he was the experienced returning quarterback. If this is what he has to show in the first five games of his junior year and second year starting, then it is take to make sure we have another quarterback. We shouldn' t have to wait 4 years to get one good year out of a player.
While I am on a roll, I might as well throw out why is it that our flashy new speedster Phillips can't return a kickoff past the 14 yard line. It is outrageous. Who is in charge of correcting that? We definitely need a special teams coach that has the time to concentrate just on the special teams part of the game.
Lastly, why is it every other team has receivers that are open. If Louisville needed 5 yards for a first down , the receiver was open 6 yards out. Our receiver would only be open 3 yards out and then get tackled before the first down. And I don't believe it is the quality of the receiver, as we are not talking about sprinting down field. We are simply running basic short routes, but we are hardly opened , at least when Hunt decides to throw it.
