Does anyone have the courage to come up with an argument on how next year is better?
I want Red back. I've seen very little to suggest he cannot coach (is he a top 5 in-game HC? No. There are only five of those). His coaching is not severely detrimental to the outcome. This is a flawed team and roster. He has to do more/better. And, yes, he should absolutely be given the opportunity to reset. Why? Because the downside is much greater than the upside. We do not want to be known as a program that turned on a beloved alum after two seasons? Who is coming here after that? Answer: Not as many as all of you think. No one wants this to become Georgetown or to a slightly lesser degree Indiana. And the holier than thou attitude that is so prevalent among the indignant echo chamber on this board, I would argue, actually sets the stage for program failure. After every loss, I read on this board how "embarrassing" this program is? Could not be further from the truth. This is real life. And sports are tough. Really, about the only P5 program in America that has been immune from a down period is Kansas (and perhaps Arizona). Even Duke and UNC have had seasons or spats of subpar results. The incessant whining and second guessing here is exhausting. Rather, let's watch and allow Red to grow as a HC and build the program. There actually is a lot to be excited for, especially in the coming year or two. And let's also acknowledge, the ACC is decidedly mediocre at this time, so if we get our own ship righted, a quick rise up the ACC standings is rather realistic. This worm can turn, and the best environment for this to happen is with proper program investment (Wildhack/GM) and ample fan support. Sling me with all the dislikes and high heeled emojis, but that was the question initially posed. A sub-.500 season does not have to be complete misery. Take stock in/process the wins, and above all, remember that this down moment can provide terrific perspective and actually enhance the elation when we do rise again.
