Wow what an amazing atmosphere it was tonight. 24,780 for the home opener against Cornell!!! I don't remember a higher attended home opener since the Dome opened. And it wasn't a sit on your hands crowd, there was a great buzz the entire game, couple with some LETS GO ORANGE chants in the hallways at halftime. The student section was completely full on the first level and went more then 3/4 up on the second level. The students actually stayed the entire game, and didn't leave at halftime!!! They even had choreographed chants/cheers, so hats off to them, we will need them this year.

Being a Syracuse Football guy as well it did make me kind of depressed there was such a buzz for essentially a blow out game, and the football guys can barely draw 35k. The electricity isn't even matched, even for the Clemson game.

Anyways we just put Kentucky on notice. We are taking back that attendance crown!!!

One thing I wanted to add is the WiFi needs to be addressed. At least in my football seats I can get a half a$$ connection, but not in my hoops seats. Totally drained my battery too. Wasn't able to check any other scores, and of course the Dome doesn't show them. This needs to be addressed by the University . I won't hold my breathe though

Seemed pretty mellow to me, felt more like 12-15k in attendance than 24k.

really? i strongly disagree. in prior years there would be maybe the first couple rows filled in the corners, and behind the baskets on the 3rd level. Tonight it was basically to the top. There was a ton of energy in the building. Usually they meat games are snoozers for the crowd

Yep! When I saw the announced attendance flashed on the jumbotron the first thing I said was "we are already ahead of UK for the season."

One thing I still can't wrap my head around is the number of people who are still wandering in well past the 10 min mark of the first half. Get your lazy arses to the game on time!! Also, people were leaving en masse with over 5:00 to play. Really?

having over 21k season tickets sold basically is going to guarantee us the crown. obviously there won't be a crowd announced less then that all year, and if we are drawing close to 25k for Cornell, we should be close to 30k for all weekend ACC games, which we have a TON of. Going to be interesting to see how many we get Tuesday, but if the student support continues we will be set. Very pleased too see such a well attended, and active student section.

Also did you notice the amount of beautiful women in attendance tonight? probably the best looking Dome crowd I have ever seen up there. The bandwagon is bringing some eye candy

I loved the "Trevorrrr Cooneyyyy" chant. For a guy who received so much criticism and groans on his missed threes last season, it has to be nice to hear that.

Don't get why people would leave early on a Friday nite of the first game of the season. Can they be called real fans?

Other teams are going to absolutely hate hearing that chant for the next 3 years. It will mean that Spuds Cooney is raining 3's on their parade. I hope it's heard both LOUD and often.

completely disagree. i was amazed at the crowd for this meaningless game. Crowd was pretty electric for a game vs Cornell. Way to go Cuse fans. This proved, again, that we are without question a hoops town.

we are going to avg 27k+ this year. we might end up with 3-4 34K games and a shot at 6-8 30K games. 24K will be one of the lowest games but nothing lowed than 22-23K.

This just in: UK is allocating 12" per seat and have sold 7000 season tickets last night in a secret sale. UK will now report their attendance every night as 31,057

That was great - off the top of my head, that was the best opening crowd since Tennessee in 1993 or 1994. It's been almost 20 years since 315 and 305 have been so full for a fall semester game. I was skeptical, but now there's no doubt in my mind that we'll average 24,000+ and end up at the top of the attendance heap.

EDIT: Tennessee only drew about 21,000 in '92-'93. Last night's crowd was the biggest opener since Cornell drew 29,057 on 1 December 1990. Good stuff.

And I'd bet that game in 1990 was not on television.

The crowd goes absolutely nuts for him. Even last year when he struggled the crowd went nuts whenever he hit a 3. One of the loudest moments last night was when Cooney had hit a couple in a row and then was wide open, Ennis looked right at him, and then turned and went the other way with the ball and the entire crowd yelled lol.

But yeah, I was getting to the game late because I had a hearing and then went out with my parents to celebrate. I probably got to the gates around 6:45, and the line was just gigantic trying to get in. I didn't make it into the dome until after the game had already started. I haven't seen the student section fill up that much for a game that wasn't against Georgetown or Villanova probably in all my 4 years here.

I actually thought there was a lack of chants though, but like I mentioned before, any time Cooney hits a 3, everybody goes nuts, and he hit 7 of them yesterday. Add in that freakish put back slam from Keita, followed up by him letting out more emotion than I've ever seen from him, and the crowd had a lot of moments to be hyped up for.

Man, I'm so happy that basketball is back.

That was very audible on TV, when Ennis didn't get it to Cooney. Then Boeheim took Ennis out and got on him for it, appearing to say "he was right there!"

I agree with you... At times there was more talking in the stands instead of game watching. Lots of silver all around me

I understand its tickets sold but there was only 17k tops. Looks great for overall attendance numbers though!

That was tickets sold. There was only 17k most

For sure. Announced attendance was definitely tix sold, and no where near actual attendance. We were talking about how disappointed we were at the crowd.
Tix sales are what matters, an yes it was a great crowd as far as performance, but actual A.I.S. was a let down.
