Pitt - Storrs State - Louisville... that's it for Big East dome games

I don't mean to skip over the Minny game, and while the talk about dome attendance is getting pretty tired (there are clearly a couple different camps that are pretty staunchly settled in)...

Isn't it reasonable to expect the dome to be near-sold out for Pitt in two weeks (and the other two home games after that, for that matter)? I thought the SB game would get decent attendance due the the hype around SB's 77 points the week before and their BCS level transfers from Iowa and BC and whatnot... but clearly no one else thought along the same lines.

Pitt just pulled out the big upset against #13 (i believe at the time) VTech after looking like they could be last in the league which provides at least 3 levels of interest that should push SU fans to get into the dome for that game:

1. Pitt and SU, last game ever as a big east matchup...for whatever it's worth (the argument can be used for the other two dome games, but su/pitt is a matchup of the teams leaving together to the acc, obviously)
2. Pitt and SU, currently next to each other in most conference power-rankings (toward the bottom)...so the matchup could establish the better team in the always muddled big east records at the end of the season.
3. Depending on who Pitt really is, it could be a fun matchup
3a. if the pitt team from the first two weeks shows up, we could potentially beat pitt in convincing fashion (which last happened in 2004...the win, not the convincing fashion - it was double OT)

Pitt - Storrs State - Louisville...that's the home schedule for the rest of the season... for all the griping/defending of dome attendance...the 3 dome games for the rest of the year should be at least full enough that the cameras can show the entire dome and SU/players/fans don't have to be embarrassed.

No.

A near sell out would be 48,000+. Not gonna happen.

Game is on Friday night. Some people will not be able to attend due to HS games.

We'll be playing Pitt every year in the ACC. There's nothing special about this matchup.

I think the Friday night games with bring +3-5k. There will be tons of students because they can pregame adequetely. I think locals will see it as more of an "event" with it being on national TV and all.

If we whallop Minnesota, I would anticipate a good showing for Pitt.. if another close one... I wouldn't expect more than Stony.

I would think we would have a decent crowd for Coach P's return to the Dome.

still only going with 41k even if we're 2-2

No offense but your statement about Stony Brook and hype its way off base. Outside of this board there was zero hype for Stony Brook in the communtiy or nationally. Most fans from other teams who think SU nearly got beat have never even heard of Stony Brook and couldnt believe the game was that close. Also as Tom noted the matchup for Pitt fair or not is not anything special but with it being a Friday game and possibly looking at a 2-2 record there should be 40K+

Well, all I know is that I will be there and will have a lot of fun watching the Orange on a Friday night against the Pitt Panthers.

Fun stuff!

sorry, i went back and changed it in the last paragraph but forgot about the first paragraph about pitt. i meant to change it to a fairly full stadium (something that wouldn't look embarrassing on tv)...not expecting a near sell out.

First, we have to win at Minn. A loss, and attendance for all home games will probably suck. A win, and I think you get close to 40 for Pitt.

Uconn just doesn't stoke any excitement with people.

Louisville - it all depends on where SU is record-wise at that point. If we've been on a roll and are 6-3 or 7-2, it's a big, loud crowd -45k. If we're 4-5, meh, 33k.

I think with SU right now, your base is 25k with each win bringing +3k and each loss -1k.

I admit I'm concerned about the possibility of a 3-0 overtime squeaker, but I'm planning to be there anyway to say good-bye to Coach P.

I'd love to drive up for the Pitt game but I will be at Parent's Weekend at my daughter's college in Pennsylvania that night. I know that's not as good an excuse as raking leaves but hell, its the truth.

With a win vs Minnesota, we could look forward to a big crowd and a great atmosphere, much like we had vs WVU last season.

Three games left at the dome this season and I am very much looking forward to them. Friday night games work well for me ( I understand this is not true for everyone) and last year I heard more chatter at work before the Friday game than any of the Saturday games. Either way I will be there and it seems like 4-5 others in this thread will be joining me. The other 40,000 will have to decide for themselves. I hope they come but SU isn't paying me to figure out how to get them there. Go CUSE

If we beat Minny, we definitely get over 40k for Pitt.

I'm more about the win than attendance right now - every time we play against a QB sub, somehow we get burned. Bad omen again.
