Really puts things in perspective.

I think he'll get an amazing ovation on Saturday and no matter how the post season plays out for him and his teammates, kudos to Scoop for his perseverance and disposition through it all.

Really good article. He and Kris really have become great ambassadors for this program.

Agree about Scoop coming back as an assistant-Methinks with his personality he would "scoop" up a bunch of good recruits. More importantly, who takes over the Scoop and Kris show? I think MCW would be great.

Indeed, especially Scoop, the young man just bleeds Orange. His vocal sentiments about the program and his experiences on the Hill are quite honorable.

Articles like this are so refreshing to read, and show one of the many plus sides of college sports. Scoop should be very proud of all he has done.

Following college sports in general seems to always have such negative headlines that dominate the news. It seems as though you can't turn around without hearing something about agents, corrupt bowl officials, underhanded deals in conference realignment, kids getting talked into being one-and-doners who end up undrafted, shady characters that influence recruiting, coaches leaving schools and recruits in the dust with many years left on their contract...we all could go on.

I love stories like this as the reminder of the good things with college sports, and the SU program in general. There are many more out there.

People in CNY love SU players one and all but have a special love for the ones that stayed with the program through tough times.

I think KJ is going to get a huge ovation. People like him a lot. But Scoop is going to bring the house down when he is announced. It is going to be a special afternoon.

Nothing is better than watching an immature frosh turn into a team leader.

Love Scoop and he bleeds Orange. My all-time fave PG of my watching era (I missed Sherm and Pearl).

He's going to be missed. He's getting an extended "Scoooooooooooop" from me on Saturday.

Much earlier this season, there was an article about Scoop where he talked about how importantly he takes his role as providing an example to the younger players on the team. Paraphrasing, when he arrived on the hill, there was no-one to show the younger players the ropes, nobody leading by example, etc. And he views that as a negative, because the younger players didn't have the maturity to self govern team behavior, balance school and basketball, react constructively to a loss, etc.

So he takes it upon himself to be the guy lifting at 6am to show the younger players what it takes to succeed at this level. And lo and behold, he started off going by himself, but little by little others [I think MCW was mentioned specifically] starting showing up, as well. Now, there are a group of players who do it--it is ingrained into the "culture" of the team. He talked about being the last guy to leave study table, etc. and basically demonstrating that he wants to be the guy that the others point to as being the good example that he didn't have a young player.

Nothing would be sweeter than to see us reach the Final Four [and beyond], to give Scoop an on-court legacy that matches up to the one he's constructed off the court. His career might have started out shaky here, but he has really turned into a fine leader and a credit to the program.

Man, if that part of Scoop could rub off on Dion during this off season, and Dion comes back...watch out. To dream...

Scoop is a class act. He'll definitely be missed.

After his tumultuous start who would have thought we'd be saying " We need more players like Scoop Jardine". But we very clearly do, he has transformed into the type of player an institution sees once a decade if they are lucky. Kudos to him for really growing up, he should be an inspiration for all collegiate athletes.

You can't help but wish the very best for Scoop. Kudos to him for toughing it out and learning from his mistakes. A great ambassador for the program.

Scoop's freshman year was 2007-2008, the infamous "dynasty" team. Maybe Andy could have been that lead by example type if he doesn't get hurt. Devo also tore up his knee, but I don't think he would have contributed much to the "lead by example" role. Harris spent half his time in Niagara falls. That leaves Onuaku and Ongenaet as the other juniors on that team. The only seniors were walk ons.

I don't think that it can be overstated how important Scoop has been to keeping Dion's head straight at times and MCW from getting too frustrated with lack of playing time. He speaks with the voice of experience, and that carries weight with the young guys. He can say, "you may not understand or like what Coach does/says, but hard work will eventually be rewarded." (I think he's helped keep guys out of the doghouse too this year.)

Definitely a success story and it was a great and well deserved article!

Coming from the city and background Scoop came from, and accepting the heat the way he has, he has become a man and leader in his time at SU. Maybe my all time favorite player for that reason alone.

He will be missed for sure.

An article like that should be sent to recruits (more so their parents) as an example of what can come from sticking it out and being a student athlete.

Scoooooop!

I'll go one step further. JB loves players who stick through it. You can tell he has great admiration for the perseverance and work Scoop has put in.

As i said before when Sherm was our leader the best 3 years in history until now 31-7,26-9,30-8 87-24. Scoop has been wonderful to have here and 30-5,27-8,29-1 and counting ain't bad either.

I haven't seen the article yet, but want to put my support out there for Scoop. I don't know why it is sentimental - but that trailer for the Orange Glory video is completely awesome and I was so glad to see Scoop in it even though we've all had our ups and downs together.

Awesome article. I hope he "lands well" from this high he is on at Syracuse.
