One if the greatest, AND most well-liked. The video was an after-thought. Really disappointing.

Especially consisering SU has the Newhouse School of Communications. You'd think they could/would produce a lights out video.

I just assume every football ceremony we do is a transparent attempt to goose ticket sales to a dog game.

See: #44 retirement, South Florida, 2005.

It is what it is.

Syracuse football is run like a Monday night cub scout meeting: losers, dorks and amateurs playing make believe.

It is my fault. I couldn't go.

Email Gross about it. According to some on this board, he's crowdsourcing ideas for making things more fun.

That's a terrible thing to say about Cub Scouts.
I agree. That previous post by Stevenson was in poor taste.

and thats fine, but damnit make it so freakin entertaining that you wont want to go take a leak during it.

need to find away to make it bigger than the game itself.

if its done pregame, you are making sure to be in your seats 5 mins early.

halftime? get your beers lined up at the 4 min mark and hit the trough after its over.

it should be like being there when Jeter was coming to bat on the way to 3000, dont be doing something stupid and unnecessary when he was coming up.

there shouldve been a 'McPherson's was awesome, cant wait for McNabb's' vibe to it.

EPIC.

FAIL.

Here's an idea: Gross/SUA should admit they fumbles it and sell the fans on doing it again - bigger and better. Gives them a second bite at the apple re: attendance for McNabb.

Can't say I really disagree with what Chris Carlson is saying here. The entire thing felt rushed. The tribute video was lackluster at best (and that's being generous). The whole ceremony made me feel like we were Polk High retiring Al Bundy's jersey and not Syracuse University retiring the jersey of one of the greatest athletes in the school's history.

The whole game should have been a celebration for the Big East player of the DECADE: for example, sprinkle in video highlights (as Cuse player, not Eagles) during timeouts. While people are watching, not off to pee during halftime. Of course, this would mean a couple less bucks of ad sales, or invade the smile cam or kiss cam time. Also the ceremony should have been just before second half kick -- when players (and fans) are back in seats. Absolutely acknowledge the other former players on the field with him. Our recent FB tradition sucks -- newer fans need to be shown that we didn't always suck. We used to beat Clemson, Michigan, ND, Georgia, etc. That's how you build a base, sell a product. As has been mentioned, between Newhouse, the business school and the IT school, you'd think there's enough talent to make this other than the bush league show it was. Really a disgrace and the Post Standard article was right on.
