There is some great footage of both football and basketball and great stories. It's hard to believe that Doug did SU sports for 19 years. I have always found him to be friendly and interested in conversation about SU sports. I think if SU ever asked him to be a part of the family again he would jump at it.

Here is his Greater Syracuse Hall of Fame induction in two parts. I'm putting these videos in the basketball Friday articles also.

He made me feel I was at the game, even if I wasn't. Dissed as a homer by some, he brought SU sports to life like no one else, with an excitment that was contagious. I do a good impression of Doug, and been told, " You are Doug Logan":D

Are you coming to the tailgate tomorrow?

Doug Logan was the best. Grew up with him always there for Cuse sports and was sad when he stopped. Matt Park does a good job now so its not too bad

i say this with affection as it's the way a home announcer should be, best SU homer announcer ever. Miss that guys passion. Would LOVE to see him do SU again in some capacity if Park ever decides to move on.

"The Syracuse Orangemen are on the air! Hello once again from the beautiful Carrier Dome in Syracuse NY, we bring you major college football!" Did I do it right?

Doug was indeed the Voice of the Orange.

If he were to be brought back I think he would do much more than simply provide quality broadcasting - he would be the Athletic Department's prime development generator.

He would build the indoor facility by himself.

Nobody has the kind of juice that Doug has.

No one can match the excitement in Logan's voice on an SU big play. And it was genuine.

I like Matt Park. Seems like a good guy, hardworking, definitely does his homework, doesn't make mistakes (that I ever notice), and bleeds orange. But that's one area he can't keep up with Logan. Not his fault though, don't know if anyone could ever match it.

I used to tape the game on the radio just to listen to him get all fired up. I will never forget his call on the Malcom Thomas TD home against Va Tech, that was awesome!

Doug Logan was indeed amazing will never forget him announcing Mcnabbs bomb to Harrison in 95 at the dome against minnesota. very good memories indeed. Syracuse has produced some talented individuals as voice of the orange. Matt Park is fantastic also, shows great emotion. We are very spoiled up here having professional quality in our announcing booths.

Hey we agree on something! I was a big critic of Doug's, largely because I thought he was technically lacking in his broadcasts and I've seen him "big time" young future broadcasters in an utterly demeaning and unforgivable manner.

However, he would be a tremendous public advocate for the university"s sports programs.

I have heard that doug did not burn his bridge to the university power brokers- he poured gasoline on it from sky top to Marshall street and lit it with a flame thrower.

In 1994, when we played UConn in the Dome in a Big Monday game (we won by like 10-15 points), my Dad and I were seated right next to the tunnel where the players and media walk out of. A short time before tipoff Doug Logan was visibly hurrying to get to the broadcast table, and being the 12-year-old pain-in-the-ass that I was I shouted "Mr. Logan, can I have your autograph, please!" He stopped everything he was doing, walked over asked me what my name was, and wrote, "To a Future Orangeman" on my program.

And he was right, I'm actually Ethan Cole if anyone didn't know. (just kidding) But that was very considerate of him.

Those first seven words are music to my ears.

I regard Doug Logan as Dodger fans think of Vin Scully. He was terrific.

108-95. One of my ten favorite Dome games. And it sounds like you had more fun than I did that night.

Some of the things he wanted from the university dealt with his son, and some other questionable demands. He definitely lit the bridge up with a flamethrower. Doug's a great PR guy, but is fairly douchey outside of that world. I have long term first hand knowledge of this, and no that does not make me Carrie Lazarus :)

I was a big Joel Mareiness fan, (and Bill O'Donnell before him), and was unimpressed when Logan replaced Joel. But he grew on me and became the "Voice of the Orange" for a new generation and I was just as bummed out when he was let go, escpially for the revolving door we had the next few years. I was disgusted that one-year wonder Mark Johnson got the job for the national title year. I talked to someone who knew Doug and said that I felt that in 1987, he had "And Syracuse wins the National Championship" in his throat and he never got the chance to say it. It would have been perfect if Doug could have finally said that in 2003. The guy said Doug felt the same way.

Re: Mark Johnson - there's an unfortunate and unnecessary reminder of him on our historic video opening; for some reason they placed his radio call over the video during that clip.

He also provided one of the funniestand most ridiculous moments of all time when he didn't realize he was on the air and told someobody named "Pauly" to "lick my sweaty orange nuts, ya bastard". I wish that hadn't happened right before youtube, so that audio clip could live on.

Wow, unfamiliar with that. Too bad nobody captured it.

That would be Pauly Scibilia who engineers for Matt Park now and is on the radio in the afternoon.

Mark Johnson always treated me well. In fact he went out of his way to make me 4 cd's of the national championship radio broadcast. Had many conversations with him at SU practices never big timed anyone.

Completely agree on my evolution on Doug.

I interned during SU football games at WSYR. This is before the Internets and he'd call in constantly asking for Purdue updates in a kind way...and I will never forget a well-known sports broadcaster who said 'If you want to succeed in sports broadcasting, don't listen to a thing Doug does."

Technically, perhaps but he's a deserved icon.
