Quick story...a good friend of mine’s son played on the varsity football team at Gilman. He was in no way going to be a college football player at any level and rarely made it on to the field but he just loved being a part of the team for several years and got his letter jacket. Think 5 ft 9 inch, 155 pound teenager. I asked at a family dinner what it was like in practice having Ellison coming at you with a full head of steam. His eyes went wide and he said it was absolutely terrifying and you generally had no recollection of the actual hit. Then before getting up off the ground you would wiggle your toes first, wiggle your fingers, make sure no bones were broken and only then would you begin to stand up. I could only imagine...
