Tawfiq Thomas has entered the transfer portal.
The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Thomas, a native of Tampa, Fla., played in 22 games during the last two seasons for the Cardinals. He's the sixth scholarship player off the roster to have entered the portal since last week for the Cardinals.
A member of the Class of 2022, Thomas came to Louisville under the previous staff. He was the first true freshman to see action during the 2022 season. He played 110 snaps that season and finished with eight total tackles.
This past season, Thomas played 97 snaps in 11 games for the Louisville defense and had four tackles. During spring ball, Thomas was rotating at the nose tackle position with Jared Dawson, and Dez Tell. Louisville is also adding Harvard grad transfer Thor Griffith to that position in June.
Thomas signed with Louisville over Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan, Indiana, Miami, and Arkansas among offers.
As a senior at Tampa Gaither High School, Thomas has totaled 43 tackles (15 for a loss), seven sacks, and a forced fumble for a squad that made the first round of the Sunshine State's 7A playoffs according to MaxPreps.
