championship team rotation. They get Obi the good transfer big man from Rice, but Duke will be full of question marks next year. Grayson Allen, Marshall Plumlee, Matt Jones, and Amile Jefferson are their only returning players next year. Syracuse has more scoring returning.

Tyus Jones is headed to the NBA, Duke announces.

Call me crazy, but could Greyson Allen be our best returning player? Kid is going to be really good.

At the end of the day, they're duke. I don't expect a repeat, but they'll compete.

Plumlee is also gone to the military I believe. So they have Jefferson, MJones and Allen returning on ship plus Obi will be eligible. Jeter and Kennard are committed. I expect they will pick up Ennis as well.

Sooo>
PG: Ennis
2G: Allen
SF: Jones
PF: Jefferson
C: Jeter
Bench: Obi and Kennard.
I think they will get in the mix and bring in at least 1 more recruit possibly 2 for next year.

Yeah I said when Ennis announced Duke was my choice because of what it appeared they were losing.

The lineup you put out their just shows Duke will be like us this year. No depth or proven commodities and will be a work in progress. The championship though gives the program and fanbase patience though.

Let's not go crazy. The National Title game was the best game he had all year. Before that game he averaged 3 points and shot 27% from three. Yes, he will be a great player at Duke and they will try to make him their next four year star, but he literally provided them less than Kaleb Joseph did before the final four.

Grayson Allen pulled a Spike Albrecht from the 2013 NC game. However, Louisville beat Michigan even Albrecht going off.

Allen is more athletic than Albrecht, but Allen had a good game in the NC game, but I don't consider him better than Gbinije.

They'll try to get Derryck Thornton to re-class...

And the bad news in this is? :D

They seem feast or famine lately. Either a national championship or a loss to Lehigh or Mercer.

All this player movement makes the ACC wide open next year. It's one reason why I never panic when we lose players, because everyone does. At this point you have to say the preseason favorites for next year are UNC and NC State in the ACC. Whatever teams can put the pieces together next year will be able to make noise.

When I first came to Syracuse in 1976 I was an NBA fan, how could I not be coming from NYC and having watched the Knicks in 1969 and 73, and didn't know diddley about college ball- well not entirely true, I was well aware of UCLA during the Wooden/Jabbar nee Alcindor/Walton era. But as NBA seemed to get ever more commercial and mercenary I began to lose interest in the pros and got into the fact that college teams had a lot more stability, and kids seemed to be playing for the "right" reasons- school pride, team loyalty . . . not for dollars. Seems quaint and naive to even mention that today.

And now? Well, college ball seems about as mercenary as the NBA. Kids come to school thinking one and done, and programs competing at the top level need to scramble each year to craft together a few returnees with incoming freshman and a mix of transfers and still eligible graduates to field a team the next year. Yea, I know, I sound like an old fogey. Things change, the world has moved on, yadda yadda- but I gotta say, there has to be a better way then currently exists in CBB. Other college sports seem to have different rules that offer more stability. I think the NBA and the next CBA could go a long way to taking a little wobble out of the spinning top action that is currently the state of college basketball. I sure hope there is a little more vision by the policy makers and all who make a living off of basketball to understand grabbing the quickest money is not necessarily in the long term best interests of themselves and the game- at all levels.

Had to unload a bit. Off to the airport for a biz trip to Phoenix.

UNC will be a top 3 preseason
UVA will be top 10 preseason
Notre Dame, Duke(on name), NC State, Louisville, Miami will be top 25 preseason
Syracuse will get votes preseason.

The ACC favorites will be UNC and UVA.

You think Louisville top 25? We have a better recruiting class and they lost more than anyone in the ACC. I think you are right on most of those teams. I can see Notre Dame taking a step back next year as well. Maybe the NCAA will announce sanctions on UNC before the season to make things even more interesting. (wishful thinking).

Both Coach K and Rick Pitino have a ton of roster space to work with. So look out for them to put together monster classes in 2016 and 2017. Next year will be a very rare "down" year for Duke but they still have enough talent, name recognition of a few returning players from a championship team (always important to the following season rankings) and the cache of the Duke name on the jersey to be in the top 25.

Is Anderson really entering the draft?
Yes he is. He's been projected as a late 1st, early 2nd rounder. The speculation is that Shayok, a frosh this year, would be the leading candidate to replace him as the starter with Nolte, who's a great defender and seems to come up with dagger 3 pt-ers, coming in for him.

NC State has an excellent roster that should be really competitive . The only plus for other ACC teams is that they have Gottfried still coaching them.

ND was clearly underrated in the last pre-season.

They will likely be overrated to the same extent on the run-up to next season.

The difference that Grant made (from 15-17 to 32-6) was tremendous. And now he's gone. As is Connaughton, their toughest player, best rebounder and most consistent perimeter shooter.

Big step back.

Jackson, Vastura, Auguste all returning and they got some younger pieces ND will be a preseason top 25. Now they blew their chance in March to make the Final Four this year, but they will be a 20 win team and NCAA team barring injury. They won't be a top 10 team losing Grant and Connaughton though.

Plus, some of them periodically seem unable to resist the temptation to test out that revolving door of the Wake County jail.
