Let's see just how much Jim Larrañaga employees the 'Bernie Fine Defense' and how Duke and Coach K handle it.

Should be a crazy atmosphere as they were 400 short of a sellout yesterday.

Devils Ready For Miami Slowdown?

MCW travels to NYC to take on Melo 7 PM on MSG

Miami is playing a 1-2-2 though not a 2-3 aren't they? They did against us and when I watched them beat UNC as well. I have read that BErnie was helping Larranaga with zone though and it has seemed to turn their season around.

"Miami utilizes an unorthodox matchup zone defense

A matchup zone is defined as a combination between man-to-man defense and a zone defense."

“It has man-to-man principles and that's why they call it matchup. But it's really a zone,” Hamilton said. “One guy is matched up with the ball and everyone else is kind of clogging in the lane. If you are not aware of that philosophy, it can be a challenge.”

In this video Larrañaga talks about how he ran into Bernie at a function and picked his brain

You wonder now if any college program would take a flyer on hiring Bernie as an assistant or is the stigma too strong?

Larrañaga had no qualms in mentioning his name and Jim is a well respected man in coaching.

At Muck Rake their has only been one comment and that came from a Syracuse reporter.

I think someone will. The mystique of that defense has grown to a point where there are going to be some teams (possibly very good teams) that want to incorporate it. As for the stigma, he is forever linked but but its not nearly as sordid as it could have been.

I like the way Miami is playing this year. Obviously they aren't the most talented team, but they have kind of adopted the old Big East style of play. They are a Physical, Tough, Half court team.

That Duke-Miami game will be a big one determining the 1-4 seeds that get the double byes in the ACC tournament.

Looks to me like SU and Pitt are locks, with Duke, Miami and Virginia fighting it out for the other 2 spots.
