I meant this to be about Class 2014.

Justice Winslow commits to Duke. That makes 3 five star recruits and one 4.3. Holy cow! This strength of this recruiting class has me worried.

We better hope McCullough actually makes it to SU. And then we better hope McCullough actually plays like a five star freshmen. Our only saving grace will be Grant playing his Junior year.

You know we are allowed to lose to Duke. Why are you worried? It's one team in the ACC that looks better on paper to start the year. So we'll fight for second in the ACC next year, it's not a bad situation. Even if Mccullough doesn't play unbelievably his freshman year, we'll still be fine. You gotta remember, true freshman point guards and centers don't usually light the world on fire out of the gate. I think Tyus and Jahlil are a bit different in that they are extremely polished, but its not a foregone conclusion, especially because neither has elite athleticism. I do think Duke will be ranked preseason #1 with those guys coming in, as well as the guys they will have staying like Matt Jones, Semi Ojeleye, possibly Sulaimon and Hood, and maybe even Jabari if he wants a Nat'l championship.

I would think other 5-star guys will come to the Cuse in the near future and to Carolina obviously to have the opportunity to tangle with these Duke studs. I think Dave85's concern is somewhat warranted. SU and the whole ACC better get it going to be able to compete with Duke. I'm not as sold on McCullough's game as others and who knows if he actually gets here, realistically.

I am pretty sure he has almost zero interest in staying after this year.

Who the hell is going to score next year?

Cooney, Dajuan, Ennis, Gbinije, Mccullough and Roberson not to worried about it. Of course said the same about this year, but the difference is in maturity.

Ennis is ready to play this year and will score pretty well, by next year he makes a huge leap. Roberson I expect to make a Jump, and Mccullough I expect good minutes from early.
Cooney and Gbinije will be Jr's next years that technically are seniors or by age should have already graduated.
And Dajuan should be alittle better defensively and offensively. Rak is a senior as well.
And that is if Grant doesn't come back. I wouldn't sleep on patterson or BJ either they both can shoot off the dribble, and guys that shoot off the dribble can at the least spot up. Not saying thats a annointed final four caliber but its no slouch.

By all definitions thats 3 jrs in dajuan, cooney, gbinije, and a senior in Rak and a freshmen point who played huge minutes all year. And Grant could be coming back if he doesn't get up into the first round with his jumper.

imo two of our biggest problems next year right now are...
1.finding a perimeter forward between Mccullough, Roberson, BJ and Grant(if he comes back). Same thing we are looking for right now is it CJ, will he find a lateral quickness jumper further out like a Kobe,(he certianly isn't dribbling lower like a Kobe), or will he start getting the ball further inside successfully. Kaleb Joseph will be playing from day and doing some good things imo.
And
2. Ennis Gbinje and Cooney all are blow by guards but none are one on one isolation attackers or have shown signs they will be. I am doubtfull, but we might not even need one. Gbinije and Ennis are explosive. This is one place where kaleb joseph could be huge especially if he has a midrange pullup as a fresh.

Grant has to first develop a consistent outside shot from NBA range. If he doesn't, and enter's the draft, he may end up like K-Jo. If I were advising him, I will tell him he's got a be a few notches better than he is right now before he entering the draft. Even if the Orange repeat another final four I would still advise him to stay another year. Getting drafted is easier than actually getting playing time in the NBA! He may end up just sitting on a bench for year and for what? His family has money. I think if he decides to enter the draft it should be with his game at its highest possible level. That's what college is for! I want to see Grant actually play in the NBA!

He will get here. And he will be very good.

Agree, Grant would be in the d league right now, absolutely no doubt. He shoots no more then two shots outside 12 feet a game so far.

He came here with a two year plan in place. His dad has always seen him as the best one out of the brothers. They feel his extreme athleticism makes him a lottery pick. With that said would another year after this be a huge plus for him, absolutely. I am just relaying what I have heard from people very close to the family.

I'm struggling to understand this sentiment.

Why and how is Grant all of a sudden such a bigtime NBA prospect? His game, right now, is basically putbacks and transition scoring. He can't shoot, jumpers or FT's, doesn't have a great handle and to me, isn't all that quick. He's long and has a lot of potential, but he's so far from an NBA contributor right now. And I'm not even sure we're going to see him be able to score inside consistently against better competition.

Unless he really blows up come ACC time, wouldn't it be better for him to stick around another year, grow his game, become an All-ACC type and be the man at SU next year? His family situation should ensure that he doesn't have to jump to help them, right?

What two year plan was this? What person that has a two year plan goes to a place where he is listed as the 4th forward (JS, CJ, Rak, then Grant)?

I have had the exact opposite feel from the Grant team. They have showed amazing delay of gratification, they are much more long term oriented than almost any of their peers.

It wouldn't surprise me if JG is projected as a 1st rounder yet comes back, because he is advised that it is in his best interest to do so for the long term.

they had 3 five star recruits last year as well. and it sounds like only parker is going pro.

Rodney Hood is shooting 72% from the floor, and 73% from deep.
Amile Jefferson, a modest 78% fg percentage. :)

I've watched both play, and something's got to give. There are possibilities with these guys but the question to be answered is will there be enough room for another two forwards?

Our recruiting is clearly killing us. Our team is just not as good as teams with top ten dave telep talent on it. I so wish we had the Harrison twins over Ennis and Cooney.

When it comes to rankings, look at it this way:

Each year a school like Kentucky or Duke will have a stud freshman. In most cases (Jabari Parker aside), they won't be as good as the juniors and seniors in our program. So who cares if they bring in these recruiting classes, when we have program guys like CJ Fair who are every bit as good, if not better, and those Duke and Kentucky players will be long gone before they ever maximize their potential?
