18 total tackles, 15 solo, 2 tfl and .5 sacks.

Solid numbers I suppose for a linebacker. However, I expected him to be much more of a loud, exciting, play maker and a leader on defense along side Spruill and Bromley.

However, Davis may be one of the most quiet players on the team this year.

Anyone have anything to add or comment?

Curious if it has anything to do with the shoulder brace he's been wearing? Perhaps he's banged up and his production has fallen off as result?

I haven't really taken notice to that. It seemed like he always had stuff on his arms etc. throughout his career here. So that could be something, unless you're being mean and sarcastic right now :(.

Not being mean/sarcastic at all. I noticed it while rewatching the Wagner or Tulane game but don't recall which. I didn't notice if we was still wearing it v Clemson but I was in the 300 level so things like that can get lost. Hadn't heard anyone bring it up re: Davis but we saw Shamarko wearing a shoulder brace 2 seasons ago and his production dropped a bit as well.

Thank you, I didn't notice the brace so that could realistically be a reason.

Thank god Spruill has been playing like a maniac.

We need Davis, in my opinion, to diversify the pass rush.

It's his left arm, I'll look if i rewatch the game tonight but it was there v Tulane. I can't post images anymore or I would.

Spruill is the real deal, and I love seeing Kirkland get more run. I think our D can still get it together since, thankfully, we only have 1 ranked team remaining.

I wonder if he would be our #1 WR had he had stayed at that position. Did he move because SU was weak at LB, or were his hands poor?

He was moved to safety In the year he prepped and then from safety to lb once he reached SU. If he ever had no 1 wr ability he wouldn't have been moved but curious what he wouldve done had he stayed 20 lbs lighter and played safety or even if he could play it at 220 lbs? I miss Donovan Darius and the ferocious hits he put on opposing wideouts.

What's amazing is that in this day and age, anyone even approaching Donovin's size would be immediately moved to OLB. 6'1", 225 as his listed size in his NFL days? Hell, he'd be our MIKE this year at that size.

Unfortunately it seems any ferocious hit is now considered a penalty. You have a lot of secondary players confused as to how to use "appropriate" force when hitting a wide receiver. Its used to be taught to put your head on the ball and now you can't lead with your head. I remember when the first time someone came over the middle you made the pay. The rest of the game they would use alligator arms.

18 tackles through 5 games (3.6 tackles/game) is nothing to write home about. He's averaging fewer tackles per game than his Soph and Fr years. Technically, he is making solo tackles at a higher clip than his freshman year but still below last year's rate.

If we get to a bowl game this year and play 13 games (to directly compare to last year's game total), Davis would accumulate 47 tackles (he had 69 last year). Kirkland, a backup LB, has more tackles than him.

Kirkland seems to be in on every tackle he is out there. He has great instincts.
