Early 2012 Big East power rankings

I love it! I take this as a sign that we will win the Big East next year based on the fact that I can't recall AA being right about much of anything and that she knows little about the conference that she covers.

AA...

4. Cincinnati. The Bearcats lose 21 seniors, including Offensive Player of the Year Isaiah Pead, Co-Defensive Player of the Year Derek Wolfe, defensive leader JK Schaffer and starting quarterback Zach Collaros. There is a lot of young talent on this team, but the key word is young. How will the Bearcats handle themselves without so many of their best players?

UH, I guess I'll just make them 4th then with an entire new roster... What a moron!

I was thinking the same thing. They literally have no one returning in a conference that has always been pretty even; they will not be anywhere near the top in 2012. She also says that SU is at the bottom because they lose their three best defensive players...how about all of the depth and talent that SU has moving up and saw a ton of playing time last year? We might just have the best LB corps in the Big East along with our secondary most likely being much improved from 2011. Our DL will suffer at the End, but we are upgrading the DT, so where is the issue with the defense? Let's be honest, Bailey is not nearly as big of a loss as Carter was with plenty of backs coming back that have seen a good amount of playing time. The offensive line returns the left side to protect Nassib's blind side, and we should see an upgrade over Tiller at least with Mackey only being able to get better. Lemon is back at receiver along with Sales (hopefully) which again is an upgrade. Nassib is the second best QB in the league by and far no matter how you spin it. A solid 7-5 or 8-4 is very much so possible behind West Va (who will run away with the league) and Louisville. Rutgers' defense will be good, but their offense looks like it will be lost without Sanu.

It is stupid to just count the # of seniors. but UC does return 7 starters on defense though as noted they do lose both Wolfe and Schaffer.

I dont mean to pick but I don't think Nassib will be the second best QB by and far at all. Smith and Bridgewater will be better. Daniels is even with Nassib at worst. I like Ryan and have never thought that he was the problem with the team but he is an average college QB. Smith is excellent and Bridgewater will make a huge jump from year 1 to 2.

The Cincy thing is a strange call by her.

I think it's hard to argue too hard with SU at #8. Who should we be ahead of and why? Cincy because of who they lost? Hope I'm wrong, but I think we're at least 2 years away. Which is why it's imperative that the next QB get plenty of snaps next year (doesn't have to be the starter). I'd hate to get all the experience we're going to get from young players next year and then have to start of 2013 with a QB who hasn't seen the field.

My thing is that Bridgewater will most likely struggle next year as the defensive coordinator's now have tape on the kid, and kind of know what to expect. It is a sophomore slump for a reason. Is Daniels still going to be around? He's always struck me as more of his runner as he makes mistakes that can make Nassib look like Aaron Rodgers when he is throwing the ball lol

anyone that picks SU anywhere other than last ought to have their press pass revoked.

Disagree... and I definitely disagree with the reason's this broad states. Hard to replace Bailey, Jones, Thomas, and MM? I don't want to sound disrespectful of our guys, but Chandler did not play enough (especially at 100%) to register as a major loss. Bailey's stats were moderate, and likely better than next year's lead RB, but his fumbles negate a lot of that yardage. After three years of hearing all of the "little things" that MM does that don't show up on the stat sheet, I have to say BS, if he is all that good then he would at least OCCASIONALLY show up. Thomas, yeah, Thomas was pretty good, but his undisciplined play means that the INTs and tackles were also complimented by blown assignments and countless failures to wrap up. Next year's team may be a squad of relative unknowns, but the pieces will fit together better, IMHO.

Listen, I don't really disagree with any of this but you're missing the point: We're Syracuse fans. We pay attention to the reported benching totals of Myles Davis. AA is not. She covers the whole conference and what she knows is that since 2001 Syracuse has exceeded expectations once -- 2010. She also knows that we had an offense devoid of playmakers and lost our three "best" players in that department (bailey/provo/Lemon, potentially). She also knows that whatever talent we have coming up it's probably not that great.

Your argument seems to be that we didn't lose much, but you're neglecting to mention that we have to catch up to the entire league. I agree, we could certainly be the surprise team in this conference next year. The only problem is there is absolutely no way a writer could predict and/or bank on that.

Oh, and this is also why these predictions are fun to argue about/discuss, but are utterly meaningless.

Haha, in a similar twist, I pretty much agree with everything you said... I will throw in one thing though. If you are a paid "expert" I think your goal should be to know all of the teams on your watch at least as well as an avid fan of said team. I don't expect her to have tremendous knowledge of Myles' bench numbers, but I do expect her to realize that she is throwing out names that were not nearly as productive as she would make it sound.

She's just not very good at her job. And it has nothing to do with picking us last. they always just look at the current years record, then look at defensive and offensive starters lost and go from there. Going by that, you can't blame her but I have found her all year long to be a lazy blogger. I don't think she's good at what she does

I definitely feel Brian Bennett did a much better job than her simple because he clearly worked to find new information rather just saying "oh, Louisville won" he would talk about everything from recruiting in depth to injury news. She's definitely a lazy blogger
