Thompson was a goner based on people talking with the previous staff. looking at early mock drafts he isnt a top 4 round guy and mcshay/kiper boards have him at least 5 plays lower than the DE's left on the board for round 5... is he more of a OLB than a DE to get a shot at a decent draft pick?

He's a tweener.

He will be making a mistake if he declares.

Agreed. So much of where those guys get drafted is how freakishly athletic they are. I don't know how he stacks up as an athlete compared to his peers at the position. I love sugar bear, and he is capable of many highlight reel plays. I think part of his disappearance at times is due to the attention he gets from opposing teams, because we simply had no other pass rush threats.

If he declares he has to hope he blows people away with his potential because his production isn't strong enough for early round expectations

Hopefully this is the year one of these guys sticks around instead of getting drafted in the 6th round or not at all (what's Durrell Eskridge doing these days?) Hoping a new coach can convince him to stick around.
