3 straight games with at least 190 yards rushing and 250 passing

3 game average 212 rushing, 288 passing, 500 total 0

2/3 of games this year have 455 + yards. 7 of 9 418 +.

This year is a waste because of goofy special teams bullsh!t. It sucks but hopefully it's not a permanent problem. When the offense sucked in the robinson years, it felt permanent.

Thing is though, its not just the ST. If it was, it might be less frustrating. We also had 2 dropped TD's and a defense thatbis all of a sudden Swiss cheese.

If not for those things, we could even withstand shaky ST's.

I agree, I am more worried about the run defense and bonehead plays, dropped passes, etc. My outlook is really that we need to avoid the game changing turnovers . IN addition, we really have become a modern day college football team, we seem to be able to move the ball and there are so few really really good defenses in college anymore but when you have the chance, like a Reddsh pick 6, damit you need to take advantage of it. I don't see a consistent lock down D ever coming to Syracuse but the lost opportunities, the fumble ( refs fault) and the pick 6 were brutal. In addition, West needs to catch that ball. Plays were left on the field... AGAIN.

College offenses for the most part are going to move the ball, produce turnovers and take advantage when you can. Defending P's offense doesn't count because he and D are dinosaurs. The outlier for many college teams is a game where the D is lockdown, those games moving forward should be blowouts.

Sure I have some questions for Shafer but we have the right staff in place, stay the course, keep working on the issues, repetition, etc. Build facilities, raise money, receuit better players and we will be fine. Coaching changes aren't the answer for a program with limited funds, could be a hell of a lot worse

You want to be a top 5 team, you either need Oregon or KSU offense or elite defense. Bill Snyder would not hurt either!

So you really think this offense will be just as productive in 2013 after losing its top two receivers and replacing Nassib with a fifth-year senior of whom the vast majority of SU fans has never seen throw a pass?

The offense is much better than I thought it would be. It might not be as good next year. I hope they don't replace Nassib with Loeb.

The defense has been very bad the past 2 games, and the 2 games before that the defense was light's out. I have no idea why the defense fell off a cliff, and it remains to be seen how they play going forward. Whoever plays QB next year is beyond anything I can imagine because I've never seen anyone else on the roster play meaningful snaps. Dropped TD passes happen even on Sundays, and it's common on a team that clearly hasn't figured out how to win. They have 3 games left, and they have the potential to go bowling or even better.

So we can gain a lot of yards but not so many points and still find a way to lose. Hooray. We are the anti-Oregon.

their inability to deal with qbs who can run have got to make you wonder about the SU scout team qbs. the defense looks prepared against pocket passers.

There's questions every year with regards to losing guys but the offense sure has the players to be just as productive. The biggest loss will be Nassib for sure. Losing the two receivers isn't as big a deal imho. Funderburk is the real deal and better than either one. So we'll have to have one other receiver step up.

We should return 4 of 5 starters on the OL, plus backups, as well as all of the running backs and introduce 2 more runners that are probably better than what's on the field now. Return the better TE as well as two rookies who were raved about in camp.

Next year comes down to QB.

Offense, defense, and special teams

If we win 2 of the 3 we win the game. In our 5 losses we win 1 of the 3, in 3 of our wins we win 2 of the 3 and vs UConn we won all 3.

They will be fine at WR, Funderburk, AC, Flemming, Kobena, Clark, Lewis will all be back along with West.

TE will be as good or better with Thompson and Parris added to the mix.

All the running backs are back, add in Morris, McFarland, Edwards, and hopefully Smith.

Actually I'm looking forward the the QB competition.

I think the biggest concern is the left side of the OL.

Still too many points left on the field. West dropped a perfect ball, Wales should have caught his. Both drops lead into missed FG's.

agree. adds to the frustration. it's not like drops are a massive problem all the time or else they wouldn't get all the yards they do.

they just pick the worst times to . i wish they could've used up some of the bullsh!t against UConn where hardly needed to be flawless.

If they could just clean it up 50% this is 8/9 win team.

In the grand scheme of things it shows how much progress has been made in the rebuild. Rather be in a position where losses come from self inflicted wounds than just being non competitive. The errors and mistakes are correctable and any given week can go the other way.

Just being flat out bad is a longer term fix, as we all know.

I think they can, and will eventually. Right now it could just be a mental thing on the road. Offense doesn't have much room for mistakes this weekend, because I think the defense is going to be doing a lot of chasing in the passing game.

Just get through one of the next two weeks with few enough mistakes to get a W.

Then don't have a Temple road fiasco and bring up nightmares of yesteryear.

this is upperdeck's dream/nightmare season where you can look to a few plays

Why, do you think Pugh is leaving? I don't but if he does then yes. Otherwise Chibane is the only casualty.

Interesting. Hadn't thought about that.

The thought crosses my mind for sure, but I also remember what Marrone said about USF which was that they had too much in for the defense. At half they reduced, and the defense played better in the second half. The defense struggled against Cincy for sure, but at the same time I expected Cincy to move the ball and to score some points.

I'm still miffed about the emphasis on tackling high. This team was tackling well before USF. And really in my mind the defense has stunk ever since I read the piece about Marrone taking credit for the improvement on the defensive line play with his suggestion for shifts pre-snap. Even though him saying that probably has zero effect on the defense I thought it was too much information.

I just hope they can "clean it up".

I'm starting to get discouraged because they don't seem to be able to do it with these players this season.
