I was just curious how often, if ever, the conf POY came from a middle of the pack (we hope?) team. So the last few years 2019: Zion- Not sure it would be possible for a team with Zion on it to be mediocre, but Duke was 14-4, third in the conf. 2018- Marvin Bagley- Duke was second 2017- Justin Jackson- UNC was first 2016- Malcom Brogdon- UVA was second. (Forget how their tournament run went) 2015- Jalil Okafor- Duke was second 2014- TJ Warren- NC State was tied for 7th, 9-9. 2013- Shane Larkin and Erick Green split it, Miami finished first and Va tech finished DFL, so I gotta look that one up, what was going on there. 2012- Tyler Zeller- UNC was first 2011- Nolan Smith, Duke was second 2010- Greivis Vazquez- Maryland was tied for first. That's the last ten years, with 11 total winners. 4 guys finished first, 4 more second, one third, one 7th, and one last. So obvious bias toward the top, as you would expect. Erick Green does look like he had a hell of a year in 2013, he averaged 25 points per game (second place was 17) on solid efficiency, but still, last place? In 2014, TJ Warren lead the league in scoring (24.9 per game) and PER, so again, hell of a year. And the team wasn't last or anything. Tyler Ennis probably had a decent shot at it till the end of the season. So anyway, you def can win it from the middle of the pack, but you really need a standout year. Hughes right now is second in the league in scoring, and has snuck into the top 10 in assists. However, Jordan Nwora is leading the league in scoring, assuming Louisville is in the top 2 or 3 it's probably his to lose. To seriously contend Hughes is probably going to need to up the scoring a little and get us into the top 6 or 8, or go totally nuts and score like 25 per game
