Yeah, I get why it's frustrating for people when you used to have beat writers pumping out written content about the second-string DTs or whatever, but this role in the year of our lord 2024 is a lot different.

Not only is it a ton of written content, but it's writing for social media in bites, it's knowing pop culture = trends, it's podcasting and it's doing so in a way to garner subs.

Its a hard job. Not that it was ever easy. And you need to really have motivation to make yourself a brand so people are willing to follow you on social, download podcasts and subscribe to the publisher that pays your salary.

I'm not saying I don't miss the old school Bob Ryan beat writer that could write an article on a mid-season game seem like it was the most exciting thing ever, but the job is so so different now.

Also, remember that she is now dealing with coaches and especially players that are WAY different in terms of how they approach media and their public personas now. These are kids born around the mid 2000s. I don't envy anyone taking this job. This isn't grabbing a beer with the coaches and knocking out a column about how the Tampa 2 is beat in the local rag.
