And of course the unasked and unanswered question is What are you going to do about it?

A subject he probably would have raised in a specific way if he had any intention of doing anything about it.

But it doesn't seem like he feels any compunction to...you know...do anything about it.

What. A. Clown.

He said something along the lines of, "We can talk about the details of the UNC case and whether the committee on infractions made the right choice. The reality is that a very small portion of the public believes UNC was held accountable."

Why the hell is Emmert still running the NCAA? Did he receive a lifetime appointment? Is the NCAA a personal business that he started? It drives me crazy that this clown, who seems completely inept at best just continues to become more and more wealthy while doing a very important job poorly.

I mean you seriously can't make this stuff up:

In ACC news, NC State’s Braxton Beverly, who wanted to get started early and took one summer class at Ohio State before Thad Matta was fired, has been told by the NCAA that his second appeal has failed and he’ll have to sit out his entire freshman year.

We weren’t the only ones to point out how ridiculous it is to allow UNC to have thousands of athletes take fake classes while this kid actually gets punished for going to class. It’s pathetic.

Meanwhile, former secretary of education Arne Duncan, himself a former college basketball player,
says the system is broken and NCAA jefe Mark Emmert expresses concern that the NCAA isn’t being taken seriously and is widely distrusted.

You think?

Emmert's a piece of work. First he comes out with his lame wheelhouse pitch. Then the NCAA reverses course and assumes jurisdiction -- filing a comprehensive NOV against UNC (including the sham courses). Fast forward a few months, and the NCAA does another 180, amending its NOV against UNC to remove FB/BB (i.e., neuters the NOV). Then it publicly rejects UNC's academic freedom argument. Then UNC changes it's story claiming IT has determined there was no fraud. And pooof, the NCAA reverts to its original position, backs off and basically accepts UNC's cynical, self-serving academic freedom argument the COI had publicly rejected 2 months before. Wow. And Emmert's "disappointed" in the lack of public confidence? lol

Confusion reigns supreme here. The NCAA doesn't just need a moral compass. It needs someone competent to run the organization and members that can look themselves in the mirror with a straight face.

They don't have to do anything about it. The member schools have the power and continue to endorse the system and governing body. Public outcry is great but the schools have the power and continue to opt out of doing anything. Blame them.

I wouldn't say that he's doing his job poorly. College revenue and spending from athletics is soaring. Emmert's job is to keep the spigot wide open and flowing to the right people.
With the market for sports entertainment over the last 20+ years it would've been hard not to see those kinds of results - a competent administrator would have achieved those results without completely undermining the credibility of the organization and system.
