Emmert's Contract Extended at NCAA

I don’t dislike many people I don’t know but this is one the worst people in America in my mind running the worst organization in America. Makes almost $4m a year in a company that literally does not allow the people that make the company money to get paid. I would loveeee to sit with this guy and give him my opinion. I wanna bring CR with me too so we can lay the smack down on him lol

The guy’s job is to be the face of the organization and take the blame that should be directed at all of conferences and schools and he’s really good at that so I guess he deserves an extension?

^^This^^ He's the "bad cop" so the schools can maintain their image as the "good cop". He does their bidding and is very good at absorbing blame. NCAA HQ does not set the rules, they just enforce the rules set by the member schools. NCAA HQ can't unilaterally allow players to get money for anything. The member schools have to approve. So anyone with a problem about players' not getting money should pressure their school to vote in favor of a change. We can and will talk about uneven enforcement from now until Doomsday, but it's up to the member schools to fix the situation. Apparently they have no desire to do that and are willing to let NCAA HQ continue to take the blame. If they didn't renew Emmert's contract and a new person came in, everyone would be torqued with that person within 6 months to the same level that they're torqued with Emmert.

the circular logic at play w the cartel (i.e. the ncaa and the member schools) means there is absolutely no accountability, no consequences, no CHANGE - unless Congress steps in... and thus far (understandably) it doesn't rate quite highly enough in relation to everything else in the world for them to effectively intervene

I'll be happy to take the blame for $4m a year. I'll do it for $2m a year. They're not smart with their money.

Here is the guilty party that extended him.

There's more to it than that. The NCAA is a governing body, tasked with enforcing the rules -- and they do an incredibly poor job of performing that role.

Their enforcement is arbitrary and capricious, they selectively choose who to go after and blatantly ignore others, and when they actually do their job, penalties don't tie to historical precedent. They go after minor infractions with vigor, yet bury their heads in the sand while others flagrantly violate the rules on a grand scale.

I think the above is why so many are frustrated with the NCAA. That the institutions are involved in making the rules doesn't alter the fact that the NCAA does a shizzy job of enforcing said rules.
