If he performs at a similar level to top-10 freshman point guards of late, we will be in great shape. Here is a little summary of the top 10 ESPN point guards since 2010 and how they performed as freshmen (excluding players that played less than 20 mpg):

*Average offensive rating: 102 (MCW and Triche were 104 and 102, respectively, last season) - 18 out of 24 players were between 95 and 110, 10 have been above 102

*Average TO/40 min: 3.5 (MCW was 3.9 last year) - two players above 5 and two below 2, 22 btwn. 3 and 4

*Average effective FG%: 47.2 (MCW was 44, Triche was 47 last year)

This includes 24 players and only if they were listed as point guards on ESPN. I didn't include scoring because that really depends on the team and efficiency is probably more important than raw numbers. TOs are what really kills a team and is indicative of decision-making, ball handling and everything else that makes a good point guard.

Many variables are ignored like other players on the team, but I'm assuming it all averages out. Most highly-recruited point guards - not just the five star, top-5 ones like Ennis, but even the 4 star ones - have been pretty good right from the get-go. They are certainly more predictable than highly-touted big men.

I'm concerned about Ennis. Unless he's feeding CJ or Grant all night, where are the assists going to come from? ;)
