UNCA had us on the ropes, but couldn't knock us out, so we came back and won. That makes them just like about 10 other teams this year.

They stopped playing their game with about 12 minutes left. They are an up and down team, and they started walking the ball up court. They're not a great 3 pt shooting team, and thy started launching 25 footers with regularity. The middle was absolutely shut down for them.

The missed calls were immaterial, and even. They probably benefited UNCA more than us in the end anyways.

UNCA's coach was out-coached in the 2nd half, which makes him just like about 500 other coaches that JB has faced.

JB shut down the middle, the UNCA coach took his foot off the gas.

The general public can blame whoever they want, but the idea that we didn't deserve this win is ridiculous.

Deserving is as JB put it why they have a score board. The refs did not decide the game. A point here or there, maybe... They need to fade into obscurity.

Of course, it's ridiculous but sports thinking doesn't always make sense. You have a crowd that was decidely pro-Ashville, you have announcers that combined a pro-Ashville mentality with total stupidity regarding the rules, and you have a hoops giant that has been a public soap opera this year. It all becomes a perfect storm of anti-SU fervor.

Ashville deserved to win just like all of the other teams who have lost close contests to SU this year deserved to win...which is to say that they didn't deserve to win at all. They played hard...good for them...but the better team won, end of story.

Hold it.
Let's be honest.
THEY left it all on the court.
Did we?????

We showed up for a few minutes...just enough to win (and whether anyone cares to admit it or not,
the Triche out of bounds call was potentially a game-changer).

The more bigger, more talented team won.
The "better team" yesterday?
I hope not.
Because if that's the way we play as a "better team" then we've got big trouble going forward.

Well said.

good post.. it is realy sickening how they are dragging this out. the selective commentary and failure to acknowledge other calls or simply state its part of the game is mind boggling. the most horrendous part is the fact that.. basicaly they are saying a call should have been made.. and that call should have been the one that benefitted asheville .. not the unmistakeable loose ball foul that would not have benefitted asheville. so if they called the foul is there still outrage? and how does that benefit the underdog? it doesnt so it does not matter. this , it broke our spirits crap is a joke.

If you can play like crap and still beat a team that is playing way over its' head, then yeah you are the better team.

nothing about how SU was 1-13 from three and only down 4 at half?

just listening to bob and tom and chic mcgee says syracuse barely survives upset with a lot of help from the officials and then cites the OOB play and the lane violation as missed calls that cost asheville the game. the myth has now clearly overshadowed reality and taken root in the media.

In one sentence...

Maybe their best player shouldn't have missed an easy open layup? God, this mob mentality just shows how too much of the public want to see certain groups fail.

If this team can't find a way to play with an enormous chip on its collective shoulder, we may need to take their pulse. I think everyone here was stunned at how flat they came out yesterday, mostly because they had so much to prove. Now they have even more to prove, and if I see another uninspired effort, it will be very hard to swallow.

It makes me wonder if losing Fab hurt us less in the obvious basketball-related sense, and much more in the distraction/loss of focus sense.

Brando and Miller had about the same level of objectivity as the Celtics broadcast crew. Only difference was Miller was not visibly drunk.

I can understand getting caught up in the moment in these games and being excited when UNCA scores. That is natural and fine. But compromising your objectivity is not. Tim Brando was not a professional yesterday, and neither was Reggie Miller.

No attempt was made by the broadcasters to ask why Triche did not get two foul shots. Nobody decided to ask themselves why such an "obvious" goaltending was not called. Nobody decided to understand the lane violation rule, even after the game. And apparently a non foul call is totally fine even if it would have resulted in a turnover in the last 30 second of the same,.

Len Elmore at least had the common sense to realize there was no more objectivity on the inbounds play, and said there was a foul on the play. He was quickly shunned by Brando and Miller. Don't want to hurt the narrative you know...

FU Brando and Miller.
