Eric Dungey named to Manning Award Watch List

When did a Manning award become a thing?
Allstate Sugar Bowl Announces Manning Award Watch List

"In its first 13 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 11 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) lead the way with four Manning Award wins each, while Texas is the only school with two different winners (Colt McCoy and Vince Young)."

I guess I like to think of myself as a Davey O'Brien guy.

We really need to take some time and enjoy ED while he's here. IMO, if ED stays healthy for all 13 games he'll declare for the NFL. Especially if the same medical staff is in place.
Agree. Not hyperbole.

Was listening to The First Team on Sirius College Sports Nation yesterday morning and they were naming off one player from select schools in each conference division that were "top" players. So, not all teams were listed. I was surprised when Zarzour mentioned "and Dungey from the Cuse". McElroy's response was "yeah, I'm good with Dungey, he's a gamer."

First, I was surprised they even knew of him because they literally never talk about Syracuse, but to include him with Jackson, Francois and one other player in the Atlantic as the best players was nice.

Amen, some on this board are very whatever about what we exactly have under center. Yes, he needs to stay on the field, but if he does...the size, arm talent, decision making, leadership, and moxy is there! TD is gonna be a good one, but to think he would come on and unseat ED? Silly.

Really, you think so? I just don't see him having a strong enough arm to be rated high enough to declare early. Don't get me wrong. I think he's a great college QB, just not a high level NFL prospect. I'd put him more in a Marvin Graves class than a Donovan McNabb class.

Yep, I made the same NFL prediction months ago. People are going to be shocked, but it is absolutely in play.

I love Dungey but, imo, he doesn't have the size or arm strength of a typical NFL QB, let alone an early entry one.

And that in no way lessens my appreciation of how great of a college QB he is.

Doesn't have the size at 6'3" and 225? I can name a bunch of NFL QB's who are smaller including Rodgers (established) and Trubisky (rookie - 2nd pick of draft). Dungey's size will not be a factor with his draft status. His health very well could be and that's why I suggested that he'll leave if he plays the entire schedule and puts up the numbers we all expect.

ED's arm strength has been under estimated on this board since he's been here. I think that's because every once in a while he'll throw a dying duck which is more about technique than arm strength. There have been many very successful QB's who possessed average arm strength including Peyton Manning and Joe Montana. It's about accuracy and timing. I honestly believe that ED has more than enough arm strength to make all the throws.

How did Francoise make the list? Has he played a full game this year?

I never understood the arm strength question... really a non-issue with ED.

The only thing prohibitive for him in the NFL is his propensity to take off... that's not transferable to the league. At least, not nearly as often anyway.

I agree...arm strength is usually third or fourth on pro scout's checklists.

Well if he doesn't kneel he might be a keeper though.

Football gets good for five seconds and star players leave early.

(Sarcasm.. kind of)

Ok...It's Tuesday and enough with the accolades...get back to work!!! I want a Miami hat tipped upside down.

This is an older thread that got bumped. He was named during the preseason.
