Not an injury thread.

Through 2+ games, he is:

21-for-36 (58.3%), 428 yards, 5 TD, 0 INT

24 rushes, 106 yards, 1 TD

As a true freshman.

I don't want to overblow this because it really is early in his career, but this kid is good. Really good. And only likely to get better. That touch throw he had to Ishmael was a thing of beauty. We haven't had a QB as a freshman who could make that throw in 2 decades.

And honestly, I'm not sure McNabb would have been able to make a few of the throws that Dungey has made over the last three weeks as a freshman (McNabb could do a lot of other things better - don't get it twisted, I'm not comparing the two. Just giving an opinion).

In the long run, Dungey playing against LSU isn't imperative. Would be nice for him to see a top-tier college defense in action before conference play, but it will not make or break this season.

Super excited for the future with this team.

I am very nervous about his longterm health, though. He is not at all afraid of putting his body at risk.

That said, he's so freaking smart and savvy. That extremely delayed pitch to Fredericks was sensational, and his ball fakes are top notch.

His ball fakes elicit ohhs and ahhs. That is Manning like.

Well, if we didn't have someone cheapshot him, I'm not worried. He runs tough and smart.

He has an NFL arm. Almost an elite arm with some of his throws. His size is an issue and he must slide more. He can't take this type of beating he won't last long. Rhode Island, WF, and Cent.Mich are cupcakes. When he is up against NFL quality talent the rest of the way when we play major football schools with legit pro talent, he will get destroyed. Can't do much about the size he just needs to be smarter (not that today was his fault at all.) Dungey has the intangibles though you want in a QB.

Size will be taken care of as he spends more time in the S&C program. He's a legit 6-3, just needs to pack on some muscle to enable him to take some of those hits on the option runs.

His size is fine enough, there are plenty of smaller QB's than him around the nation. 20-25 pounds of muscle over the next 3 years should be easy enough to accomplish.

He'll be wise to target the center of the McNabb spectrum: skinny frosh -->athletic/muscular Senior (and NFL Rookie) --> Portly NFL Vet

He'll likely loose some quicks/speed with the added size, but it will be worth it for longevity sake.

This. Last game chat people were giving me crap for calling him "slender". 204 lbs isn't enough at 6'3". Not a dig on him at all, he's young and growing. With proper strength and nutrition I'm sure he'll put on a little more mass. Ideally another 10-15 lbs.

Yup. Aaron Rodgers is about the same height and build. Rodgers has gotten up to 225. If Dungey can pack on 15 pounds of muscle he'll be right around 220. That's the body type he should be looking at and striving for.

Yeah, 6'3" 225 lbs is pretty much the NFL ideal QB according to scouts and coaches.

Dungey has the best "touch" of any QB we have ever had. And I'm not worried about him getting hurt, short of an intentional cheap shot like today. He is thin and knows how to take a hit. It's like you can't get a solid piece of him when he does get hit. Freak injuries can happen but I'm not worried about him.

Absolutely, and his arm is strong

That's true - one of the things that impressed me most when I watched his HS tape was his unbelievable balance and body control. People never got a clean shot at him on his runs in HS, he would just slightly turn or weave and bounce off of them and stay on his feet.

He hasn't taken a beating, he got cheap shotted after throwing the ball. I think he's done a great job of sliding when needed.

Does anyone else see a lot of basketball player in his game? The way he eludes defenders with ankle breaking moves. Or that little flip toss to Jordan...

can he rebound?

I don't know what coaches do or see at practices, but how in the world did they not see how much better he is as a QB than anyone on this team including Hunt. Yeah he's a freshman and had not been evaluated under war time conditions like hunt wilson etc. but it is so obvious that this kid is special and SU got a prospect that other big time FB schools whiffed on.

I'll bet they did, but went with the safer, more conservative pick.

I completely agree with everything you said. This kid is probably going to be the best to ever play here. He has everything you want in a College QB. I don't think he's fragile either. I expect him to miss no more than one game He will be back by SF.
