I just threw up in my mouth. If you had to start your team with any point guard in the country right now, whom would you pick? [+] Enlarge Rick Osentoski/USA TODAY SportsMichigan State guard Keith Appling is averaging 16.1 points and 4.6 assists this season. Bilas: If Marcus Smart is considered a point guard, I would go with him. But if Smart is a combo guard and I had to go with a traditional point guard who has played the position his entire career, I would go with Michigan State's Keith Appling. There is ample reason for observers to select Ohio State's Aaron Craft, as he is a great defender and floor leader, but Appling is a leader too. He is quick and can handle, pass and defend. He's also a terrific shooter and scorer who can get to the rim, pull up or get fouled. Appling outplayed Craft in East Lansing and is averaging 16.1 points and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 45.9 percent from deep along with a 2.4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Appling should be in the mix for the Wooden Award. Goodman: This is a brutal decision because there are so many good ones: Marcus Smart, Aaron Craft, Keith Appling, Tyler Ennis. However, I'm going with Connecticut point guard Shabazz Napier. He's the most complete out of all of them. He may not be an explosive athlete, but he can score in any way you need. He shoots extremely well from deep (47.3 percent), can finish around the basket and is a willing and effective passer. Napier rebounds his position about as well as anyone in the nation and is a terrific defender. And oh yeah, he's also one of the toughest kids I've ever been around. If you surrounded Napier with guys like Gary Harris, Adreian Payne and Branden Dawson, or even with Markel Brown and Le'Bryan Nash, he just might hang a banner this season.
