We might be in trouble come spring. Hope it works out for people with cable or youtubeTV but I fear they’ll want lacrosse fans to shell out $29.99 a month.

ESPN has made it clear that the DTC product is by far the biggest priority and bellwether for its future. ESPN+ is essentially on a countdown clock with its UFC deal and existing deals counting down toward zero, at which point it will likely just be folded into the main ESPN product. It’s quite possible that ESPN is already negotiating with content partners like the SEC, ACC, Ivy League, and, as well as countless niche sports that exist on the service, these rights bought for ESPN+ will move to the main ESPN app (something that would improve viewership).

I am a Spectrum subscriber (or survivor, if you wish).

Recently, Spectrum started giving me ESPN+ as part of my subscription (along with Peacock w/ads, Disney+ w/ads, and Paramount+ w/ads.

When I brought up the ESPN app on the TV just now, it now says I have ESPN Unlimited.

And I can activate FOX One if I choose.

All included.

The only thing not included is ad free packages, they cost a little extra.

Yes, the article may be correct that eventually ESPN+ will go away, but the article is incorrect about a few other things. First, it isn't just UFC viewers who have ESPN+. I used to pay for ESPN Insider on ESPN.com but that became ESPN+. 2nd many fans of minor sports or non P4 conferences have ESPN+ to watch their college basketball, football, and a lot of lacrosse games. Second, there is no reason ESPN would be negotiating with the SEC and ACC about ESPN+. Their games generally are not on ESPN+ but instead are on ACCNX and SEC+ which are free if you are a subscriber to a Pay TV distributor that has the ACCN and SEC Network, respectively. Access to ACCNX and SEC+ apparently is continuing even if your TV distributor does not yet have an agreement with ESPN to provide ESPN Unlimited Plan to its subscribers. My guess is that ESPN+ will continue at least until ESPN has concluded agreements with it's pay-tv cable/satellite/streaming services to provide their subscribers the ESPN Unlimited Plan. That will be until at least the end of this year and into the beginning of next year. Then maybe ESPN+ goes away and to get it's content you'll need the full ESPN Unlimited Plan.
