Even Though Yesterday was Sobering...

Are you guy who thought SU should drop to the Patriot League after the first round of realignment left us in the Big East? If you're not, I apologize. But if you were, you were 100% wrong then and your views on e "Shafer Error" are more than stupid.
Scooch is making a joke. I did think SU should downgrade football if they couldn't get to a better conference situation. I always wanted the ACC very glad Gross got that done. It didn't look possible for a long time. If were still in the AAC I'd want them to get out, downgrade and stay with the Big East hoops schools.

Keep hoping for Shafer, but I'm not the only one who has posted here that his behavior on the sidelines and comportment in newsers since the PSU game is very troubling. He has shown nothing that would make one expect a good outcome.

His team crushed the sisters of the poor that Marrone's teams often struggled with. Aside from against the #3 team in the country our red zone offense has been pretty good. Just seems immature to write someone off after five games. I'm also fairly positive that this team could end up with 4 wins and still beat the 2010 team by two TD's. Recruiting is picking up and think this staff will upgrade the talent to ACC levels if given a couple full recruiting cycles.

Ok, you were right I was wrong. It didn't look like SU would get in the ACC. In fact, many on this board didn't want it.

Gross did a great job. They got to the right place. End of story.

No you make no sense, since my post said nothing about UCONN other than SU is in the right conference to succeed going forward. And UCONN is in the AAC which is a death spiral. With Calhoun gone and the AAC being a terrible hoops conference, watch their hoops program erode as well.

I was agreeing with Bayside that SU is in the right place for long-term success. Shafer and his staff squandered a great opportunity on Saturday. We can disagree about whether he is the coach for long-term success. Yes, it is only five games, but I don't see the comportment and the presence of a successful head coach. How can you expect the team to play with poise and discipline when the HC can't control himself on the sidelines and looks like a deer in the headlights in all of his newsers?
Obviously this is not someone who has followed SU football long, Ben was fiery, and Mac was really fiery on the sidelines. Its refreshing to know we have a coach who really cares. We happen to have another coach, who happens to have times where he gets out of control on the sidelines, and he's pretty good JB.

No I've followed SU sports for a long time. If you think this guy is anything like Ben, Mac or JB your hoping not seeing.

The only time Mac did anything close to this was when Dye went for the Tie, and that was a very different situation. Mac could prepare a team.

Firey is one thing looking like an out of control idiot is quite another.

Did you watch Mac's first few teams? Maybe you haven't been watching long enough ... Mac was pounded by a #2 PSU team by a very similar margin his first year on the job ... apparently he didn't prepare them well that one time? I think you need a perspective change ... Shafer is learning on the job ... give it a rest already.

You really don't get it. Yes, I watched Mac get pounded. I sat in the Dome while the idiots were doing the SacMacPack. But, you knew from day 1 that Mac got what being a head coach was all about.

Now he could have failed, but he had the tools to succeed.

Shafer has the tools to be a coordinator. It's not the record. It's really not even the score of the games. It's the fact that this guy doesn't understand how to be the face of a program. Doesn't know how prepare his team and give them some confidence. And if a coach can't comport himself with dignity on the sidelines his teams aren't going to play with poise or discipline.

"Shafer is learning on the job". There is no evidence he is learning anything. And with the ACC revenue there is no reason to have a career coordinator who needs to "learn on the job" as the HC.

Now given that he'll be here two more years. Whether they go 4-8 or 6-6 this year he'll be back. But, he'll continue to be mediocre.

23 posts and you are already a collossal bore, again.

He wasn't hugged much as a child ... you can't blame him for being like this ... he comes from the shallow end of the gene pool ... as a side note at least most of us agree he has no idea what he is talking about ... once again he has contributed to board unification :)

If anyone wants a good laugh, they have a thread on their board where their fans are actually worried that the Patriot League will be a major recruiting competitor to UConn.

Oh the depths that they have fallen.

The natives were calling for McPherson's head for about this first year - year and a half in the program. And that was after the Frank Maloney era
