it was THIRD and 2! As goofy as the 4th and 2 punt was, it would have been more defensible if we had turned 3rd and 10 into 4th and 2, leaving a single play to get 2 yards. we had TWO plays to get 2 yards at midfield! there's a million options available that raise your odds of achieving the yards exponentially if you constructively use the two plays for that purpose.

dimwitted coaches have enough trouble thinking about probabilities for one play, you're asking too much to get them to think of multiple plays at one time

Third and two and we went with the skinny post to Sales. I have no beef with that call. Sales happened to fall down.

that call is fine if a standard 3rd down. it's not the call if you're playing for two downs (which is why i knew we were punting as soon as they called it).

99.9% of all HC coaches go for it there. Marrone is the exception to the rule. He has done a great job bringing us back to respectabliity, but he can NEVER make this mistake again. Nobody criticizes him for going for it. If we lose fine, but if he honestly thought we had a chance to win after that punt he is either clueless or dumb, and I believe its the former.
