I agree (as I posted elsewhere) that we should have given some of our 2's (Jonathan, Armstrong) some more snaps. It's actually kind of funny, some of what was believed to our weaknesses (Line play) this year can be our strengths next year, while our believed strengths this year might be our weaknesses next year. Time will tell.

For those that were concerned, doesn't sound like Slayton is going anywhere.

One of the biggest reasons for optimism is that we return a lot of experience (and quality, I think) along both lines.

If Slayton does indeed stay, that is huge for the staff and the defense. I still would like to see HCDFB reel in at least one interior dline guy... that already has some good size... maybe a juco...if our line can keep opponents oline from getting second level, I think our group of young linebackers will give teams some headaches.

Hard to play a lot of 2’s as backups when a lot of them were starting. Even a 3 started. I think a lot of backups played. Rotated DEs every game. Rotated DTs every game. Played 5 LBs every game. Used a zillion guys in the defensive backfield.

I think we could have made a more concerted effort to put more LBs on the field a little more often.

Yup agreed. That’s an area they seemingly lost sight of. Had no idea until i saw the stats, but them taking more than 90% of the snaps wasn’t necessary. There’s a lot of worthless snaps throughout a game for the 2’s to get more run and give the 1s a break.

Not sure who you are referring to besides Guthrie. I'm talking about guys like Armstrong and Jonathan who I think could have helped for a few snaps. Zaire and Bennett never got a break. Berry would play a ton of snaps one week and then nothing the next week. The 4th quarter against BC should've gotten other guys like Cullen experience

I didn't see Fagan get a single snap at LB during the last 2 blowout losses. Pretty odd for a player that would seem to be in line to start next year.

Valdez played. Sometimes at LB a few times at DE. Towards the end of the season he started over Thomas. Granted he’s a senior but he was next in line. Guthrie played some although some was at DE. That’s 5 LBs getting in the field and I believe I saw Armstrong at times.
