The only problem with going for two is that if it's pick for a score they get two points and the win. I was happy to see it in the back of the end zone.
I was thinking the same thing. Since there were only 3 secs left on the clock, that means USF would have had to run the kickoff back for a TD regardless if SU kicked the PAT or tried to convert for 2 points. The PAT could be blocked and returned for 2 points, and the 2 pt. conversion could have been picked and taken back for 2 pts.
In that situation, if I'm Marrone, I don't kick the PAT nor go for 2. I have Nassib take a knee.
Wow. Never thought of that great call samdidn't understand why they went for 2 there.
with :03 left, there's no way that USF either returns the ball into FG range, or runs a play and gets into FG range. If USF picks off the ball, or returns a fumble on the 2-pt play, and takes it back all they way, they get 2 points (and go up 1), no?
Wisest choice, given Krautman's shakiness, would've been to take the snap and kneel down.
Here's a plausible scenario:
SU takes a knee.
USF returns the ensuing kick-off to to mid-field, but there is a personal foul penalty on Syracuse. Since the game can't end on a penalty, Bonani comes on and kicks his 6th FG with 0:00 on the clock, and Skippy goes home victorious.
Not that far-fetched.
