Jyare Davis is a 6'7 forward from Delaware who originally committed to Providence in 2020 (redshirt). He has been at Delaware since and is in the portal. ;)

Jyare would make a huge impact off the bench at either forward spot. He has one year of eligibility left. Why not come to Syracuse, play in the ACC, and go out on top?!? LGO!

But at the forward spot we have Chris and Donnie - both good shooters. Don’t you think this guy brings some toughness and defense to the forwards on the roster?
Yeah I caught up in the other thread. I’d take him as a role player. I’m just done with only having one-two guys that you can trust from beyond the arch. We need more shooting.

No. We need shooting.
Jyare is the "anti-Bell" so to speak as he isn't a 3 point shooter, but he does everything else well. IMO, he is perfect to come off the bench to spell the forwards... brings energy & toughness on both ends to go with scoring, rebounding, and a good passer.

I'd still like to add more shooting as well but this guy would help in other areas of need.

We need balance. Bell, Moore, Donnie, Portal PG, JJ, Cuffe if they can all knock some shots down is plenty and maybe even Chance in a pinch. We need physicality, rebounding and unselfish play.

At this point we can theoretically roll with:

1 - Moore
2 - JJ
3 - Bell
4 - Freeman
5 - Lampkin

Or Portal PG at the 1, Moore at the 2, if Portal PG is a better three point shooter than JJ. So if healthy, we can get four shooters on the floor. Maybe even Freeman as a stretch 5 for short stretches against small opponents?

Now I want to be able to also go big, or put two really good rebounders out with three sharpshooters. Jyare should give us those options.

Outside of bell, right now as we know it in college basketball, none Those are guys shooters you can trust to consistently hit beyond the arch. It’s obvious we need balance. Right now we have one legitimate shooter.

Obviously we hope choppas elite shooting translates, Donnie’s shooting continues to develop, as the others but as of right now we have one guy that has proven it at this level.

Moore is definitely not a PG or any type of lead guard at this time. Pure SG.

He looks like a very good player that can score and rebound with high IQ. If he comes here he could play 20 minutes a game. What’s not to like ?

So, we’re not gonna have any PG at all, in your scenario?

Neither Choppa nor JJ are a PG in this or any alternative reality.

Both dudes can get you a bucket.
But they can’t make plays for anybody else.

We 144% absolutely, positively need a solid portal PG to run the show.

Or we are so very screwed next season. *

* yeah, I know that Chance is a good passer.
But I’m not gonna count on a guy who hasn’t played in games that count in 1.5 years, and hasn’t shown he can get and stay healthy.

I hope he proves me wrong.
Would love to see him at 100% and a big contributor for us.

I also would love to date Kate Upton.

Which is why portal PG needs that skillset. JJ shot very well after a rough start so it’s not like Bell is the only capable shooter returning . 3pt shooting wasn’t our downfall last year nearly as much as size inside, rebounding and selfish play was.

We’ve added size, interior scoring and rebounding so far along with more perimeter shooting in Donnie and Moore that yes is unproven but promising and two capable returning shooters in Bell and JJ. Give me 5/6 guys that are capable with 2 guys specifically known for their shooting and we are in business. Or we could just have another team that shoots the 3 ball great and sucks at everything else… we’ve been there and ended up below .500

Need a True Pg.

Yeah that's not my theoretical starting lineup. That's my "we want four shooters out there" lineup, and I think Moore can probably handle the ball for a few minutes in those circumstances. Maybe not though.

Yeah I absolutely want a portal PG of the highest caliber. I was just talking about versatility and putting a bunch of shooters out there if we wanted to. For that we'd see a lot of perimeter movement and screening to try to get guys an open look.

If you can get this guy to be the third forward it’s a huge win. Minutes are available and he has a different game than the other two forwards.
Couldn't agree more. Scorng 17 a game with 7 rebounds is a vast improvement over what we got from Benny & Justin. Brings physicality and experience to the position which will complement our freshman stud.

Looks solid from the mid range as well as getting to the basket. May not break the NIL bank either. Save it for a PG!

And in games that Bell isn't hitting. You put him in with Freeman, and our new Center.

This guy seems like a Swiss army knife kind of player. Not a specialist in anything, but a do it all well balanced player. Not afraid to get in there and get his hands dirty, play d, rebound, ect. Not small, not huge, but good size and athleticism. The kind of guy we need to help balance out what we currently have and he seems like a type of player we haven't had in awhile. Assuming we get him and Red uses him in a way that best leverages his abilities, I think he'd be a great addition for 1 year.
