Never should have taken his academics lightly. He'd have had one more year to season himself...and a National Title.

Wonder where he'll end up next? Brazil?

Bummer.

My guess is Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers...
Such a joke to waste talent and the chance to earn millions because he can't stay away from cheeseburgers...

Yeah--how could anyone be serious about that? I mean we lost, what--2 games that season with Fab, only 1 in the regular season? What were we, a #1 seed--not like we had an easy path? And didn't we make the elite 8, coming within a few points of the final four despite not having our starting center play? How ridiculous to think that we might have won it all that year.

Outrageous.

What a bunch of orange kool aid drinking homers.

Iggy, the 2-3 Zone may have been the ultimate equalizer to UK's athleticism. We'll never know, but that team was one HORRIBLY officiated game away from the Final Four without the BE Defensive POY. UK and SU were destined to meet for the championship that year...but fate threw destiny a curve. The NCAA was not letting SU get to that Final Four, no matter what. The scandal that shall not be named made sure of that. With Fab, though, I think we would have made it no matter how bad the officiating. That team was too damn good.

This is a guy who likely never would have been in college in the first place but for his basketball potential.
When you recruit guys like this you have to be prepared for the off-court behavior they exhibit and the fact that it may hurt your team.

Perhaps the team manager could have been his shadow at the onset of any problem. English wasn't his first language.
Seems to me someone should have been watching over him more closely.

He was and still is a young man. From the little I know of his issues, they have little to do with the language barrier. He was just an immature young man that perhaps wasn't prepared to be a student athlete. I hope he sees the opportunities that his size and athleticism provide before it is too late. Because for all the benefits his size provides now, it may become a burden down the road. And, some might argue that it already has. Fab, standard door height is 6'8"...duck, you goof.

Still, all the more reason to have some clipboard holder sticking to that goof like glue. Coulda woulda shoulda...

I hear you, but I shutter to think that a young man needs his hand to be held. I hope we never EVER need a recruit so bad that we take someone that needs that kind of supervision. I would like to think that is the reason the staff has passed on quite a few recruits that we were all clamoring for. That is why I put complete faith in our staff, they have been doing this for quite some time, and they have endured their share of drama. I think they know how to spot most problem kids and are strong enough to not allow themselves to rationalize taking a kid that could be a negative influence on the program and the other players. In Fab's case, it seems that it was a tough call. He doesn't seem like a bad guy, I don't know him personally, he just seems like a big goof that likes to drink and not do school work. I know he did damage to his girlfriend's car, which is stupid, but forgiveable. But, if he ever struck his girlfriend, I change my opinion from he is a big goof, to he is a big peice of steaming fecal matter and I hope he blows his money and goes back to Brazil and meets many many low hanging door frames.

Kentucky because they have the best coach and he's never been sanctioned caught (until after he abandons ship and heads to another school, leaving destruction and sanctions in his wake)

Fixed that for you

Then don't let the door hit you on the way to their board.

You'll be missed.

Well, two schools that he coached to final fours had them vacated under his reign. Bobby Knight, a coach almost as good as JB would disagree with you. But, the board you want is the kentucky scout boards. We will miss you. So long. Don't forget to write.

Maybe two national titles.
