I just checked out SU’s faceoff and goalie stats on the ncaa site and Varello is ranked 54th in division I FO winning percentage (47.4%) and Madonna is ranked 60th in save percentage (45.5%).

Colgate’s FO guy Collin Orr is ranked 13th in win percentage (59.6%). Against guys who are in the top 25 of that FO% list that he’s faced so far (8), Varello’s only success came against UVA’s Schwenk in their first encounter.

As for Madonna, he's only saved 50% or more of the shots on goal in 3 of the 13 games he's started. I know part of that can be attributed to the defense leaving him to hang out to dry but still…

Maybe Desko can give guys like Nick Martin and Drake Porter some significant playing time against Colgate? I know it’s wishful thinking and probably won’t happen if the score's tight but I'd like to see what Martin can do against a pretty decent FO specialist like Orr for at least a half of a game. Same thing for Porter, Klan, or whoever else they put in cage.
