We have had exactly one top 50 offensive team in the last decade -- Marrone's last season. In fact, I bet we'd have to go back to 1999 to find another one. So sad.

This year we are top 50 but miserable at scoring points. 4 staffs, same results.

But, but, but McDonald sucks

The one difference: no other offensive coordinator was quoted in Sports Illustrated before the year saying how the offense was going to open it up like teams averaging basketball-like scoring averages/#s. Just adds to the frustrations, expectations.

Our OC would be best served not speaking or writing.

I don't care what this impulsive knucklehead says. I care that they can't score.

It's brutal. 19 PPG on offense averaging 450 a game. One would think that points would almost have to come due to straight mean reversion.

the Vill game skewd our numbers a bit.. 4 games in its pretty obvious if hunt plays the whole game we probably get 100-150 more yds and we add 25-40 yds to our avg per game.

if we figure out better play calling inside the 30 the points will come. the OC needs to stop over thinking and slowing down trying to get the perfect personal on the field every play.. if you cant run all the plays you want with every player you need to fix that issue first..

02, 54th offense, 40 something scoring.

I've been quiet on the whole McDonald bashing fest that seems to go on every week but this is getting ugly. He doesn't seem to have a feel for the game and tends to drift away from what's working and force the issue with what's not. His offense is undisciplined committing a penalty on every drive. The whole offensive philosophy seems to remind me off watching a child trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

It's hard to do.

I think he's closer than most. If we actually score at the end of these drives, we'd all be much happier and have less to pick at.

Last night was better talent, not play calling.

It's almost like he has too many things he wants to do but doesn't know how or when to do them. I do like the premise of what this offense can do or is trying to do but the execution and feel for the game need to be worked on and improved. I honestly see things I like in George that I like a lot and hope he grows into the role...sooner than later.

Here's my question: is it more the coaching that limits our offensive ability, or the on field personnel?

Seems to me we have some kids who can play, but our play calling just limits their ability to make plays. It also seems we have guys who continually make the same mistakes so it really limits what plays we can call.

Do we even have 'go-to' plays in our book anymore? This is going to be one of those seasons where we're in the last two weeks, we've found our groove and are wishing we could have the UMD and ND games back...as we are clawing for bowl eligibility.

All I care about at this point (for the season) is a healthy roster, tangible improvement on both sides of the ball, respectable play on the field, a win over Louisville, and a bowl game...with a W. Next season I hope we can put it all together and win games like UMD and ND instead of squandering them.

BTW, was it me or did the Golson mistakes last night go from "great plays by the Syracuse defense" to "Golson just played bad"? Thanks ESPN.

One more thing, and this is all I will say about last night. I am proud of how our guys played last night, especially Hunt gutting out the second half when he clearly wasn't 100%. Stupid penalties and mistakes aside, the kids did play every down and never gave up and should be commended for it. BUT...I am sick and tired of our Offense hanging the Defense out to dry. The Defense GAVE THEM A CHANCE TO WIN THIS EARLY...and they buffooned their way to 'nothing to show for it'. That is inexcusable and needs to be fixed. The Defense should be pissed today. They improved over the UMD game. Sure they had some missed tackles that allowed drives to continue, but overall they deserved a W for their efforts.
