Nazareth Area High School field hockey standout Lara Heckman has made a verbal commitment to continue her athletic and academic career at Syracuse University.
The rising senior would play for the Orange in the fall of 2015.
Heckman made the commitment to Syracuse head coach Ange Bradley after being invited to one of the Orange's recent clinics.
Next summer, Heckman plans to play for a U-19 field hockey club in Germany. After that her intentions are to begin studying and training at Syracuse's 'Summer Start' program for fall athletes.
A four-year starter for the Blue Eagles, Heckman played forward her first two seasons before making a transition to midfield last season. She has 30 goals and 26 assists in her varsity career and was an Express-Times All-Area first-team pick last season. In addition, Heckman was a Lehigh Valley Conference first-team all-star each of the past two seasons.
She also has participated in the USA Futures Program and played with the Allentown-based Mystic Hockey Club under the direction of Saucon Valley coach Phil Danaher.
