FIFA confirmed the pots for the draw and it looks like the USA will draw a tough World Cup Grouping.
Its crazy teams like Belgium(which is super talented but unproven), Switzerland, Columbia are seeded and Netherlands, Italy and Portugal are unseeded. It sucks as the USA is probably the best team in pot 3 or easily one of the top 3 depending on how you feel about Japan or Mexico.

Pot 1- Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Spain, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland
Pot 2-Algeria, Cameroon, Chile, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Ghana and Nigeria
Pot 3-Australia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Iran, Japan, Korea Republic, Mexico, USA
Pot 4-Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, England, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia

One Euro team from pot 4 will be put in pot 2 and drawn with one of their 4 South American teams.

Best case scenario for the USA- Switzerland, Algeria, Greece
Worst case scenario for the USA- Brazil-Ghana-Netherlands
Middle of the road scenario for the USA- Uruguay-Ivory Coast-Russia

Anyway you look at it our pot is the one everybody looks to for automatic points. This kinda sucks. Not that you don't get tough draws regardless but most likely we are gonna get a really tough draw. My guess is we end up with brazil or argentina in our group. Hope then for algeria and greece. Doubt we will get switzerland.

Today's mock draw had us with colombia, greece and france. I would gladly take that draw too. France snuck in, colombia is good but beatable and greece we can beat too.

I'm hoping the Pot 1 team with the US is from South America. The US is an athletic and physical team that tires the opposition. Many SA teams are small and more "technical" types. US can get a draw against Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, etc. I don't see that happening in a group with germany, spain, or anything like that.

My preference: South American team, USA, Algeria, Russia/Bosnia.

This could be ugly.

I'd rather draw 3 Euro teams than 2 South American and 1 Euro. Playing on your home continent is still relevant.

I agree. But i guess my point is that i think the US will fare better against a smaller, technical SA side versus an equally powerful and more skilled Euro team.

it, let's get Switzerland, Algeria, and Greece!!

The USA needs to avoid Brazil at all costs. Our team has 1 win against them all-time and we never can keep them off the scoreboard even when we were better defensively. Of the 8 seeded teams I prefer them in this order

1. Switzerland (they were ridiculously lucky to get seeded)
2. Belgium( they are talented and beat us 4-2 in May in Cleveland, but they don't have the pedigree)
3. Columbia( the least talented of the 4 South American teams and they are good)
4. Uruguay (I hate Luis Suarez and hope they get grouped with England)
5.Spain(uber talented, but the USA has a better shot against them the next 4)
6.Germany(more disciplined than Spain and I don't think we can draw against them)
7. Argentina( next door to Brazil and uber talented)
8. Brazil (hosts and own us)

I would prefer our European team come from Bosnia, France, Greece, Russia. We have played 3 of these 4 teams in the last 3 years. We beat Bosnia even though they subbed a lot at halftime, France beat us 1-0 in 2011 but this team doesn't play well together, we drew with Russia 2-2 in Nov. 2012, and Greece plays a defensive style which we could get a draw out of. I would prefer to avoid England, Portugal, Netherlands, Italy all of these teams are world powers and would be harder to get a result against.

From pot 2 I would prefer any African team except Ghana which owns so badly I never want to play them. Algeria is the least talented of Cameroon, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, but Algeria has talent and could be a problem as we needed 93 minutes and crazy goal from Donovan to beat them even though we had a terrible offsides call negate a goal from Dempsey earlier in the game. I don't want a South America team of Chile or Ecuador because of the continental advantage and fan support they will have in Brazil.
1. Algeria
2. Cameroon
3. Nigeria
4. Ivory Coast
5. Ecuador
6. Chile
7.Ghana( THEY OWN US like Suarez is hated universally in England)

An argument was made by someone that being paired with Brazil also means that the other two teams in the group are likely taking losses, thereby improving our chances of advancing. Interesting take.

Oh man...please let us avoid Argentina's group...

We dodged Brazil and Spain already...

EDIT: And we dodged Uruguay and Italy!

EDIT: AND WE DODGED ARGENTINA!!!

EDIT: Oh boy. Germany and Ghana, and then one other team to round it out for the USA.

EDIT: Oh man. We got Portugal.

Wow. Germany, Portugal, Ghana. God that's tough.

USA's group is set; Germany, Ghana, USA, Portugal.

Can't say I'm very happy with this draw.

Funkin funk. That sucked for us, but I don't ever remember seeing two or three that can be considered "group of deaths". Going to be an exciting one in Brazil. US fan, but no matter the draw, still excited for this team. Will be tough to get out of this group, but if there ever was a US squad I would trust to step up that big...let's do this boys.

Horrible luck for the USA. Klinsmann vs. Germany, USA vs Ghana. I felt like I was watching the NBA. Bad luck for the USA.

ESPN’s Soccer Power Index gives the U.S. a 39.3 percent chance to advance from Group G. Groups C and H are so bad it makes me frustrated. Only caveat the USA got was they face Germany last. They need to beat Ghana or they are done. Portugal is a 2 man team Nani and Ronaldo, I guess we could draw them and hope Germany is sitting on 6 pts in the final match and then play for a draw.

I'm right there with you, for some reason I think we can sneak into the second spot and be well set up in the quarterfinals.

Ghana is a must win. We need to find some way to earn a draw against either Germany or Portugal, which is going to be an awfully tall order.

We should be a crowd favorite at least. My guess is the fans will be thinking its better if we knock out teams like portugal and germany.

We need maximum points vs. the Black Stars or this adventure ends on day 5.

Obviously I'm a USA fan first, but I'm also a big Germany fan. Hoping we can finish second in the group, as I expect Germany to sweep the 9 points.

France cut it close for qualifying too
Not just that, but FIFA changed the way the pots are set up for this world cup. France is the lowest ranked of the unseeded UEFA teams, would have been placed in "Pot X" and be placed in a difficult group. Serbia had that happen to them in 2010, and they played Netherlands, Argentina, and Côte d'Ivoire. This time they randomized it between the 9 unseeded UEFA teams.
