If you want to understand how much the game has changed in 20 years, just look at the number of teams that broke 50 yesterday compared to a random Saturday 20 years ago. 10-27-18 50 point scoring teams WVU-58, Ohio-52, Toledo-51, Syracuse-51, Clemson-59, Wake Forest-56, Maryland-63, MTSU-51, Oklahoma-51, Houston-57, Pitt-54, Utah State-61, San Jose St.-50, Fresno St. 50. Thats 14 teams that broke 50. Spent a good 15 minutes looking at season results from the late 90.s and there was one week where there was 10 50 point scorers. Usually it was just a few powerhouses beating up on some sisters of the poor (SU70 Rutgers 14 etc.) Now we see many offenses at lower levels slinging it and meathead ball only where there is dominant talent. We knew this intrinsically watching the game evolve but yesterdays results just seemed to highlight that shift for me. A game where both teams threw for 400+ and rushed for like 2 ypc. Anyway another little thing that may have been unnoticed from yesterday is that Kentucky won by throwing to a dude wearing #87 for a walk off TD, where have I seen that before. Syracuse is two 4 down plays away from 8-0 and a top 10 ranking. The future is bright, and Syracuse hasn't fully "turned the corner" but they sure as hell are accelerating out of the apex and look like we got a couple years of 8+ win straightaways ahead. Beat Wake. That game last year in the first half I thought we'd gotten into that corner but the second half the wheels came off and they hit the wall. Racing metaphors seem so appropriate for this offense.
