North Carolina had an unimaginable level of injuries in 2024.
They ended the season in the NCAA First Round — a rare early entry for one of the game’s premier programs.
They healed up, and in 2024 started at a respectable but undervalued No. 4 in the preseason KANE DI Media Poll. They were No. 2 just two weeks later, then No. 1 after their first 1-2 showdown in early April. Since then there has been no doubt they are the best team in college lacrosse, hoisting the NCAA trophy and completing a wire-to-wire perfect season.
In all, including the final KANE Women’s DI Media Poll, they spent the six weeks on top the poll with little doubt they were the best.
Final Four teams Northwestern, Boston College and Florida make up the next spots, then it’s heavy on the Ivy League, ACC and Big Ten contenders.
