was traveling yesterday without internet access, so I watched it on espn3 replay this morning. Some thoughts. *Wagner blows - so everything you'll read below has to take that into account. They were awful. *Allen came out tentative in the first three series. The play calling didn't seem great but I'm not sure how much of that was the result of poor reads by Allen. He threw two really quick check downs...neither with much pressure on him...both "swing passes". I'm sure he got reemed for throwing into coverage the past two weeks, and really got conservative yesterday. He underthrew West which resulted in that tipped ball - should have been six. I've yet to see him move in the pocket to give him time or a better lane to throw the ball. He just looks uncomfortable out there...no other way to describe it. Robotic perhaps. *Hunt on the other had did what our QB should do against a team like Wagner - shread them. The one thing that I really liked about him yesterday was his movement within the pocket. He moved his feet and kept his head looking downfield. I mean, I don't think we've had a QB actually do that since McNabb. Twice he moved toward the LOS, really close to it, and had the presence to still throw the ball to open receivers. He really put the DBs in a bind by doing that. He's elusive. Throw out the 40 times - its why they really don't mean , this kid has a feel for defenders. Hard to teach that. He also threw a nice deep ball and hit the receivers in stride. Those two tosses to West were perfectly thrown and could have been completed with little separation from the receivers...which is likely going to be the case against better teams. I'm not going to anoint him yet, because it was Wagner, but he looked he part on all fronts yesterday. Also liked what I saw from Morris III and McFarlane...those two have the most raw talent in our backfield, once they get reps...wow. Morris made a move in the first quarter where he sidestepped a guy in the back field and then got to the corner. That was a Sunday move. Gonna express my frustration about the initial QB choice by our staff. I know you sometimes can't tell until its a real game...but the pocket presence and escapability of Hunt had to be visible in practice. That PSU game is going to cost us this year.
