Class of 2026 SG Mark Morano Mahmutovič (Slovenia) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (4/6/26)

Listed as 6’4 - 6’6

Reminds me a bit of Del Orso from Arizona. Can sprint off a curl screen and knock down shots. Is not going to blow by with sheer athleticism, but will sneak past you with craftiness and backdoor action. Definitely at least a rotation guard depending what the roster looks like. I’m pegging him above Kiyan, with hopes they both make each other better.

Interestingly, my daughters best friend at college is from Slovenia, population around 2 million, they are punching up at the euro basketball youth levels for sure.

I love European players, they don't have to unlearn all the star based crap basketball Americans learn in AAU basketball.
Ha, I wish it were that simple. Way too many kids learn from people who know nothing about the game from an early age. 5vs5 stand around and watching one player dribble burns kids out before they even get to AAU. I have seen way too many football, baseball, and soccer coaches take they modified level only for the $$. They get these jobs because they are teachers. Doesn't work that way at all in Europe. AAU is the final stage of a flawed system of development in the US.

I know it is a deeper problem than just AAU, but AAU ball definitely seems to glorify the individual over team play. Whereas, team basketball wins games.

I will point out the Slovenian league is generally not considered to be of good quality compared to a lot of the other European leagues/the Australian league, but he put up good numbers there too.
