Flutie Flakes

Pre-Syracuse born in New England days. I went crazy in the living room. Undoubtedly the last time I celebrated anything Boston College.

I later learned they were the outhouse on the hill as an SUMB freshman three years later.

The rest is history.

It was miracle play for sure. I despise BCU more than anyone but having met Doug a few times I couldn’t help being impressed each time.

I would say I miss people caring about college sports in Boston but I’ll take the pro titles. Sold out Beanpots and Conte being full and my BC connects obsessing over whether to pony up for a better parking spot. I am the biggest college sports lover ever but lifelong Syracuse fan and Providence in hockey always went to BC games to root for the other team unless it wa someone like Miami grew up a few blocks away.

But was anyone actually watching this play? It’s also Schnellenberger Miami and not Johnson so early in their 80s run. Lots of people told me they remember where they were for it who don’t care about BC. We’re QBs those days that weak armed that Hail Marys didn’t happen? Even Michael Bishop threw one for the Patriots in a real game.

Wanna hear the most Flutie story ever.

So early 90s there was a Bruins alumni vs Boston college alumni game at Conte. Usually these games would be at regular rinks with 100 people. BUT... it was announced that Bobby Orr would play for the Alumni. Remember it’s only a dozen years since his retirement he hasn’t played any hockey since due to the knees but he wasn’t that old maybe would have been 41 or so. So Conte is PACKED. Orr doesn’t play. Flutie played for BC and was just as good as any of their hockey alums.

He wanted to play hoop. I guess he was very good at it
