Then the updated version did the comparison NOT based in the legend's entire long career, but only his last five years, with the assumption that a legend's records near the end of his career will be on a decline. Those results still says a successor, most likely, cannot do better than the legend's last five years of declining records. This is eye opening and while it does not point to a solution for a path back to the better days, it may be a predictor of some bumpy roads ahead.
