Foote: Lynch sends wrong message

Ah yes, because if Marshawn stopped doing those things kids who previously didn't respect authority will now respect it.

I think Lynch sends the right message. Challenge authority when common sense dictates, but still abide by the rules authority have set rather than blatently disregard it in entirety.

Essentially he's bringing dumb rules to light and having fun with it. He's also not hurting anyone in the process except for the commissioner who fines him at will but doesn't have to answer to the same media.

I find, as just a normal hard working guy that makes an average amount of money; Lynch is an annoying idiot. I think Foote makes a good point that Barkley said a couple months ago. I commend him for saying something that's probably largely unpopular by his fellow NFL players/union. If you were to compare the virtue of the two men, there is no comparison.

This #HotTake is brought to you by the Guild for Who Gives a Sh**.

I'm not a Marshawn Lynch fan, but good lord, there are far worse people to be targeting in the NFL right now, ESPN. Just because he doesn't like talking to you, don't go seeking out stories about what a bad influence he is.

That's a bit of a strawman argument - I don't think Foote was implying it was that cut and dry. Simply that kids look up to Lynch and it sets a poor example for impressionable young minds.

I think Larry Foote is placing way too much importance Marshawn Lynch has on those 'impressionable, young minds.'

It's not a rule, is a clause in his contract. Don't want to follow the clause, don't sign the contract.

One could argue that it's a bigger problem that too many people care too much about authority.

I mean, one could argue.
How about decency? Why should someone have to explain to their kid that its mot okay to grab your crotch in public, despite what you see in the NFL. A game check and suspension would make a difference.

I really don't care about this, honestly. But the "think of the children!" approach is always laughable to me.

I have two kids. You know what I say if they see Lynch grab his junk? I say, "That's really inappropriate kids, don't ever do that." Honestly if Lynch grabbing his crotch is some horrible dilemma for a parent...well, they suck at parenting.

You know what I find 1000X more "indecent" than Lynch's crotch grabbing? Having to pause NFL games I'm watching on a Sunday afternoon because TV networks air terrifying trailers for R-rated horror movies so that my kids won't have nightmares.

I think the argument is geared more towards kids who don't have parents at home who care what they do, or watch, or act. They aren't sitting there watching TV with their kids helping to explain right or wrong. Those are the kids the argument might have some validity to, obviously one person and one incident they see on TV doesn't make a difference. But young kids will think it's ok to do what their "heroes" do if there is nobody there to correct them.

I guess "hypothetically" :D the outcome of this is you have kids going to college, standing up on tables in front of a lot of their peers, and screaming "#ck her right in the ..."

I was responding to Tuttle. I didn't take that he was expressing dismay for those children, but I could be wrong.

When the authority is a power hungry a****** like Roger Goodell, it should be challenged. Lynch is awesome and the fact that he upsets the pearl clutchers makes me like him more.

Gotha, didn't realize that, my fault.

or just ignore it and see what they do to you.. His choice really.

I agree, Marshawn isn't perfect but he does a lot of good out there, makes plenty of mistakes for sure as well. I think the kids from the project in Oakland where Marshawn grew up have more to worry about than a nut grab. Foote makes a good point but good luck getting through to Lynch with that. Everybody is different

To me a contract is binding. I would think that if anyone supporting Marshawn was a business owner and they entered into contracts with their customers/other businesses that they would expect their customers to uphold their end of the agreement. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they wouldn't care if their customer broke the contract. /shrug

Good bosses generally let their best performers cut corners here and there. Unfortunately the NFL is a monopoly so they don't have to.

How dare you impune my parnting, and . U. for doing it. I am a great parent, with great kids.
I have a child risking his well being serving our country. He had the self confidence to take a path very different from that which his mother and I had ever envisioned for hhe could not be more proud.
I have a daughter who spends most of her precious little free time (current undergrad at Geneseo, crew team, job as tech advisor) helping others. Also, she is confident enough to openly espouse her social and political views, even though they are diametrically opposite of those of much of her immediate and extended family, and I could not be more proud of her for that. Many kids would be quiet, because it might be easier.
My youngest was just singled out for stopping some bullying in his school. The bullying was being done by a very popular kid in his social group, in the presence of their joint friends. Do you know how hard that is for a 14 year old to do?
Another son has enough on his resume to be selected for USMA and American Legion programs.
Everybody who meets my children love them and comment on how well spoken and well mannered they are.
Teaching the right thing is harder when famous people do the wrong thing in public and are glorified for it.

Wow.

Relax. I wasn't impugning anything. I doubt you laid awake at night wondering how to have the difficult conversation with your children about Marshawn Lynch's crotch grabbing. That was kinda the point.
