Welcome to Peppermint Patty Day!
It’s Peppermint Patty Day! A peppermint patty is a tasty confection made with a rich, creamy peppermint filling covered in semisweet chocolate. The York Cone Company, which was based in Pennsylvania and originally produced ice cream cones, invented the York Peppermint Pattie in 1940. Unlike the existing chocolate-covered peppermint candies, York’s product was firm and crisp. It soon became the premier candy of its kind.
Peppermint patties also gained notoriety after the debut of Peanuts, Charles M. Schultz's famous comic strip, in 1966. One of the main characters was Patricia "Peppermint Patty" Reichardt.
To celebrate Peppermint Patty Day, enjoy a minty and refreshing dark chocolate patty!

Keys to Orange's Matchup with Florida State (TNIAAM; Cassillo)
After an extended break of nine days, the Syracuse Orangebasketball team will be back in action tomorrow against the Florida State Seminoles. The two ACC bubble teams tip off at the Carrier Dome at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The 'Noles currently sit at 16-7 overall, and are tied with Syracuse at 6-5 in the ACC. FSU's won four straight games and has flung themselves right back into the ACC and NCAA Tournament races, respectively.
So what are some things we should be watching out for tomorrow, and how might Syracuse attack some of Florida State's strengths (and weaknesses?). Some keys to the game:
Florida State's balanced... everything
The Seminoles obviously have preeminent scorers Malik Beasley and Dwayne Bacon leading the way on offense, but only focusing on the two standout guards ignores what makes FSU so effective. Beyond Beasley and Bacon, two other 'Noles average at least nine points per game, and the team regularly rolls 10-deep in the rotation, allowing them to always keep fresh legs on the floor. No player logs more than 30 minutes per game, while nine log more than 10. Seven players also average more than three rebounds per game.

Syracuse vs FSU: 5 Things to Watch (photo gallery; PS; Waters)
The Syracuse Orange (16-8 overall, 6-5 ACC) will host Florida State (16-7, 6-5) at the Carrier Dome on Thursday night in a pivotal battle in both the ACC standings and the pursuit of an NCAA Tournament bid. Both teams are riding hot streaks. Syracuse has won six of its last seven games, while Florida State has won four in a row. The Orange and the Seminoles are both near the NCAA Tournament bubble. This is the first of two games between these teams as FSU will host the Orange in the regular season finale on March 5. Tonight's game starts at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.
How Did Syracuse Become a Bubble Team? (the juice; Auger)
After dropping its first four ACC contests, Syracuse, with Jim Boeheim back on the bench and in full grimace mode regarding the league’s scheduling philosophy, has won six of its last seven games; a run that started with a 22-point stomping of league doormat Boston College. So as it continues clawing and scraping for an at-large berth, it’s fair to ask how Syracuse became a team with a thin bench (two freshmen see almost all the minutes), almost no inside punch, and far too reliant on draining threes to win. The search for answers stretches all the way back to the 2012-13 season.
MCW & NBA
The Orange was a questionable charge call on Brandon Triche away from advancing to the National Championship game against Louisville. But the loss to Michigan in the Final Four also resulted in the end of Michael Carter-Williams’ college career. The sophomore was selected eleventh by Philadelphia in the draft that year.
The Heir Apparent
The following year not only was Syracuse’s inaugural season in the ACC but it also brought about a replacement for MCW; freshman Tyler Ennis. And Ennis was good right from the opening tip. So much so that he declared for the draft after one year and was selected eighteenth overall by Phoenix. Ennis starting in place of MCW wasn’t much of a surprise but his meteoric rise was. That meant for the third straight season, Syracuse would have a new starting point guard.

Keuka College to Change 'Wolfpack' Nickname After Legal Pressure From N.C. State (PS; Axe)
Keuka College is changing its nickname from 'Wolfpack' to 'Wolves' after a threat of legal action from North Carolina State University.
Keuka, a Division III school located about 75 miles away from Syracuse in the Finger Lakes, adopted the "Wolfpack" nickname in 2014 during a re-branding phase. The school was later contacted by NC State in 2015 about changing it, claiming an infringement on NC State's trademark to the nickname.
"No one could reasonably confuse Keuka College with NC State given the significant differences in our schools, from our size, to our division, to our colors," school president Dr. Jorge L. Diaz-Herrara said in a statement.
"While NC State may be willing to spend their monetary resources on legal challenges at a time when the very value of higher education is being called into question, Keuka College is not.".
Keuka's teams will be recognized as the "Wolves" starting in the 2016-17' season.
Steven Muma of "Backing the Pack" on SB Nation reached out to N.C. State for a statement on why the school demanded the nickname change for Keuka.
"Keuka plays sports as far south as Florida, and NC State plays across the country, including markets close to Keuka College," N.C. State spokesman Fred Hartman said via email. "Both institutions have NCAA teams and club sports teams that compete in the same sports. Neither institution has total control over how others might display or refer to their athletic name, including uses by local or national media and even various merchandise vendors."
"Royalties from licensed sales of trademark merchandise generated $800,000 for student scholarships just this year," Hartman told me. "For this and several other reasons, like many universities, NC State works to preserve the value of its trademarks, avoid consumer misinformation, and protect trademarks from possible infringement."
