The Joe Franklin Show was one of the longest-running TV talk shows in history. The program was on the air for more than 40 years and produced more than 28,000 episodes. Joe Franklin, the host of The Joe Franklin Show, began his career as a radio personality when he was just seventeen years old. He made his television debut in 1950 and invented an entirely new programming format—the talk show. Throughout his career, Joe Franklin interviewed hundreds of thousands of people. Today we honor and celebrate this self-proclaimed "King of Entertainment,” and all that he has done for television. Fans are optimistic -- even though SU has yet to beat Pittsburg in two matchups this season, they figure third time's the charm. Tip-off is scheduled for noon Wednesday at the Verizon Center. Jim Boeheim still looking for his first ACC tournament win and the Orange are heading into the match-up on a two-game losing streak. But fans say even though there's been a lot of ups and downs this season...they're confident their team will put up a fight. "As long as they can work together and stay strong through the rest of the game, hopefully things will go well," said Dan Gross, an SU basketball fan. "It's tough, but at the same time, it's Syracuse basketball, and Jim Boehiem's never had a losing season in 40 years so you always know that they're going to at least compete and make these games fun and exciting," said Varun Raghupathi, another SU basketball fan. With a win, SU would go on to face number one seed North Carolina in the quarterfinals on Thursday. He talked about his time playing at Beaver Falls, when the Tigers were the top-ranked team in the state. They played a team three times that season, and cruised to wins in the first two. The third time, he admitted they probably took a win for granted and didn’t grab the lead until two minutes remained in the game. So, will Pitt feel extra-confident going against Syracuse — a team it beat twice this season — in the ACC tournament second round on Wednesday? “We beat Virginia Tech and we beat Georgia Tech and then we lost to them,” Jeter said. “This game is a little different. The intensity level is always picked up for Syracuse for some reason. We’ve had their number for the past two years. We’ve just got to go out there and play hard.” The Panthers’ success against Syracuse stretches beyond this season. They’ve beaten the Orange four-straight times, and coach Jamie Dixon has a career record of 14-6 against them. But, as Jeter alluded to with his story, Pitt can’t rely on that success. Not with so much on the line. ... Other 15 Rock Acts That Could Eventually Make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (photo gallery; PS)
