May-12-Inernational-Nurses-Day-Greetings.jpg

Welcome to International Nurses Day!

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has celebrated this day since 1965.

In 1953 Dorothy Sutherland, an official with the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, proposed that President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaim a "Nurses' Day"; he did not approve it.

In January 1974, 12 May was chosen to celebrate the day as it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, who is widely considered the founder of modern nursing.[citation needed] Each year, ICN prepares and distributes the International Nurses' Day Kit.[citation needed] The kit contains educational and public information materials, for use by nurses everywhere.

In 1999, the British public sector union UNISON voted to ask the ICN to transfer this day to another date, saying Nightingale does not represent modern nursing.[citation needed]

As of 1998, 8 May was designated as annual National Student Nurses' Day. As of 2003, the Wednesday within National Nurses Week, between 6 and 12 May, is National School Nurse Day.

Quade Green Leads EYBL in Assists, Visits Syracuse (scout; Daniels)

Heading into the spring evaluation period, Philadelphia (Pa.) St. John Neumann point guard Quade Green was a known commodity and ranked as the No. 50 overall recruit.

But his play stellar play on the Nike EYBL circuit with the PSA Cardinals has escalated his profile to potentially one of the best point guards in the 2017 class.

“Quade has proven himself to be a big time scorer over the years but has decided that winning is his plan A,” PSA Cardinals coach Terrance Williams told Scout.

“With that, he's transformed himself onto a more well rounded offensive player by consistently making the right play," Williams continued. "To being leading the country in assists and getting double digits points is great but his ability to make others better on and off the court is what allows us to label him special.”

Through seven games on the Nike EYBL circuit, Green is leading the league in assists at 11 a game. To go with his 77 assists, Green has turned the ball over just 21 times, is averaging 12.9 points a game and is shooting 40.7-percent from three.

“I think I’ve played well for my first time being on the that circuit,” Green said.

“I always have something to prove,” he added. “I’m trying to get the No. 1 point guard spot.”

Offseason Outlook at LaSalle (cityofbasketballlove.com; Verlin)

...
Josh Verlin (CoBL): If you had to come up with one word to describe last season:

John Giannini: Terrible.
...
...
CoBL: Fair enough. Let’s talk about the three guys you had sitting out last year for transfer seasons: B.J. Johnson (Syracuse), Demetrius Henry (South Carolina) and Pookie Powell (Memphis). As the season went on, did you start integrating those guys off the scout team and in with the guys who they’d be playing with this year?

Giannini: Don’t assume anybody being integrated with anyone. We’re not basing anything we do next year on this year. Don’t assume any lineups.

CoBL: Just to start to get some familiarity with the guys.

Giannini: We never settle on starting lineups until right before the season, so they’ve played mixed-up lineups all last summer and all last fall. So they’ve played with each other and against each other plenty. There’s no integration or getting used to each other whatsoever. They played together every day for three or four months.

CoBL: After going most of 2015-16 with just a six or seven-man rotation, is it just overall depth that’s the biggest asset from a year ago?

Giannini: No, I think it’s talent, depth and experience. It’s not just more players, it’s the quality of the players. Depth means you have a lot of players, that has nothing to do with quality. It’s quality, depth and experience.

CoBL: What does that trio bring to the table?

Giannini: They’re talented. You’re talking about a guy who started at Memphis, you’re talking about a guy who started two years in the SEC and B.J. is one of the most talented players I’ve ever coached and he’s the one who didn’t get as much playing time at Syracuse, but when he did he excelled terrifically. They’re just talented players and they’re experienced and they’ve played at a high level.

Breweries and Food Trucks: A Fine Match Any Day, And a Reason for a New CNY Festival (PS; Cazentre)

It makes perfect sense: The people who run food trucks are always looking for a good new place to set up shop. The people who run craft breweries are often too focused on making beer to spend much time on a food menu.

With both food trucks and craft breweries increasing in numbers around Central New York, it was inevitable that they found common ground.

Local food trucks are now routinely parking alongside craft beer tasting rooms. Toss 'n Fire Wood Fired Pizza has been seen at Willow Rock Brewing Co. in Syracuse and Local 315 Brewing Co. in Camillus. PB&J Lunch Box spent some time at Eastwood Brewing Co. Shattuck's Paddy Wagon has an ongoing partnership with Stout Beard Brewing Co. on West Fayette Street.

Breweries such as the soon-to-expand Middle Ages Brewing Co. in Syracuse and the new Seneca Street Brewpub in Manlius are pursuing hook-ups with food trucks.

Now, the marriage of street eats and craft beer is getting its own local festival: The first first Syracuse Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival comes to the New York State Fairgrounds from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 21. (See event details below).

They are a perfect match.

"We started (inviting) food trucks because they can offer real food, and all we had was snacks," said Kevin Williams, who opened Willow Rock brewery and tasting room with partner Rockney Roberts last fall. The brewery is at 115 Game Road, off Ainsley Drive, (behind the former Danzer's Restaurant).

This is why i wondered why they dont have food trucks around the tailgating scene at manley, if you dont want the hastle of cooking and dont want dome food this would be a pretty good alternative. create a rotating menu of trucks and publish it so people could prepare accordingly before the game.
