Welcome to Drive-In Movie Day!
On this day in 1933, eager motorists park their automobiles on the grounds of Park-In Theaters, the first-ever drive-in movie theater, located on Crescent Boulevard in Camden, New Jersey.
Park-In Theaters–the term “drive-in” came to be widely used only later–was the brainchild of Richard Hollingshead, a movie fan and a sales manager at his father’s company, Whiz Auto Products, in Camden. Reportedly inspired by his mother’s struggle to sit comfortably in traditional movie theater seats, Hollingshead came up with the idea of an open-air theater where patrons watched movies in the comfort of their own automobiles. He then experimented in the driveway of his own house with different projection and sound techniques, mounting a 1928 Kodak projector on the hood of his car, pinning a screen to some trees, and placing a radio behind the screen for sound. He also tested ways to guard against rain and other inclement weather, and devised the ideal spacing arrangement for a number of cars so that all would have a view of the screen.

The Juice Online | 2016-17 Syracuse basketball: Sizing up what we know about the schedule (the juice; Auger)
With the arrival of June, #OrangeNation is a solid five months away from the start of basketball season. That means at least 150 days until Jim Boeheim verbally jousts with the Knights of the Keyboard (as Ted Williams used to refer to the media) or questions whether a referee (or 20) is long overdue for an eye exam. But we here at The Juice Online are always up for talkin’ hoops. So as we do the slow crawl towards Midnight Madness, let’s take a look at what teams we know Syracuse will encounter during the upcoming season, though the entire schedule has yet to be finalized for release.
Colgate pays a visit to the Carrier Dome on November 11. The Orange has beaten Colgate 49 straight times having last lost to the Raiders in the 1961-62 season. So why mess with a good thing? After all, 50 is a nice round number for a win streak.
Four days later on November 15, Holy Cross makes the five hour trek west (Mass Pike to the NY State Thruway for those New Englanders up for a road trip). And we’ll all be saying a lot worse than Holy Moly if the Sons of Bob Cousy win that one.

Syracuse Basketball: Taurean Thompson Close to College Decision (TNIAAM; Weinheimer)
For Syracuse Orange (and other) fans, the long-awaited Taurean Thompson college choice is almost upon us.
Thompson, a highly regarded forward from New York City, will make his college decision following a visit to Michigan State in the near future. The Spartans hadn't recruited him until late, making the suspense for his decision that much higher.
Thompson said he had not yet scheduled the Michigan State visit, but added that it would not take place this weekend.
Thompson attended Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., this past year. He spent his first three years of high school at St. Anthony's in Jersey City, N.J.
Thompson has narrowed his college choices down to Syracuse, Seton Hall, and Michigan State. He is a top 100 prospect in 2016, and would be a huge get for a Syracuse team who is hurting for frontcourt help. With three scholarships remaining, this absolutely is a player the Orange want to sign. Thompson would join shooting guard Tyus Battle and small forward Matthew Moyer in a class that could make a huge impact on the court next season.

The Juice Online | Recruiting Roundup: Syracuse working hardest for 2017 wing Jordan Tucker (the juice; Cheng)
Let’s get right to our recruiting links from the weekend…
SNY.tv’s very own, Adam Zagoria, writes that Syracuse is the school that is coming hardest for 2017 wing Jordan Tucker. “Syracuse [is] probably the working hardest,” he said. “I know they thought I wasn’t interested a while ago and then I told them that I’m really interested in Syracuse. It’s still high on my list so they jumped right back into my recruitment.”
2017 prospects Quade Green and Mohamed Bamba are planning trips to Kentucky, reports Andrew Slater of 247Sports. Kentucky has not offered Green yet, and Syracuse leads in his Crystal Ball.
Syracuse offered 2019 Florida defensive back Semar Melvin, he tweeted over the weekend. He also has offers from Kentucky and Florida Atlantic.

Cheap Trick cranks the volume at Taste of Syracuse 2016 (review) (PS; Tulloch)
At 9:02 p.m., Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, singer Robin Zander, drummer Daxx Nielsen and bassist Tom Petersson roared onto the Taste of Syracuse main stage as this year's festival headliner.
The key word here is roared. Several people near the speakers winced and plugged their ears. My first thought was regret for not bringing ear plugs. Was it blown out audio? Nope, just a group of guys playing like it's 1979.

His son, Daxx, bounced behind him on the drums, with his mop of curls furiously flopping to the beat. People may miss Bun E. Carlos, Cheap Trick's original drummer, but Daxx seemed right at home behind his dad.
As for the golden-haired Zander, he may have been endowed with a young man's voice for his entire life. Even at age 63, he hits the explosive high notes in "Dream Police" and "Auf Wiedersehen" with little apparent effort. His trademark white track suit and Navy cap still fit perfectly.
There wasn't much chit chat between songs, but when there was, it was interesting. Fact: Zander's wife, former Playboy Playmate Pamela Stein, hails from Syracuse. Who knew?
