Welcome to the First Day of Summer!

The summer solstice occurs when the tilt of a planet's semi-axis, in either northern or southern hemispheres, is most inclined toward thestar that it orbits. Earth's maximum axial tilt toward the Sun is 23° 26'. This happens twice each year (once in each hemisphere), at which times the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky as seen from the north or the south pole.

Another Team USA setback won’t stop top basketball recruit Cameron Reddish (herald-leader.com; Roberts)

A year ago, high school basketball star Cameron Reddish came to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado with the goal of making the Team USA U16 national squad.

Reddish didn’t make that team, but he did learn an important lesson.

“It shows you what your weaknesses are,” he told the Herald-Leader last week. “You can go home, work on what you saw at camp and come back with a different mindset and just be ready to go.

“I wasn’t physical enough. I wasn’t vocal, didn’t bring enough energy. I was laid back. But, this year, I came out with a lot of energy. I feel like I did pretty well.”

This year, Reddish was one of the top performers throughout the first few sessions of U17 training camp.

The 6-foot-8 wing player from Pennsylvania used his length — he has a 7-foot wingspan — and athleticism to his advantage. He shot the ball well from outside and did indeed show off a different level of energy on the court.

2016 NBA draft profile: Syracuse G Malachi Richardson (csnphilly.com; Hudrick)

Malachi Richardson
Position: SG
Height: 6-6
Weight: 200
Team: Syracuse

Richardson's draft stock began a meteoric rise during Syracuse's improbable run to the Final Four. After enjoying a decent season (13.4 points per game) that saw him make the ACC All-Rookie Team, Richardson averaged 15 points in the NCAA Tournament. The 20-year-old freshman stood out in the Orange's upset of 1-seed Virginia.

Scoring wing players are scarce in the NBA, which makes Richardson a widely-scrutinized but highly-intriguing prospect.

Strengths
Richardson is a scorer, plain and simple. He's capable of creating his own shot and can shoot off the dribble. His biggest asset may be his instincts. He excels in the pick and roll and reads screens very well. He's flashed his ability to shoot during workouts despite not being the most consistent three-point threat in college (35 percent).

Richardson possesses the ideal body for an NBA wing player at 6-foot-6, 200 pounds with room to add more mass. His 7-foot wingspan will certainly help him on the defensive end of the floor.

Serious dude: a look at Chris McCullough's rehab and how it changed him (netsdaily.com; Income)

Chris McCullough remembers what he thought when he fell in one of his first games as a Syracuse freshman, blowing out his knee.

"I thought I had dislocated my knee but when I couldn't pop it back in --that's what I tried to but couldn't do it. -- I tried to get up and walk on it, but couldn't do it. It felt like I was walking on fire," he told Cassy Athena, an independent film maker in a YouTube video released this month.

"Next day, I had an MRI and somebody told me, it was an ACL. That whole week, my knee was so swollen I couldn't walk. I couldn't do anything. I was in bed for the whole week. Had to get up, have rehab, have surgery, have rehab when I came back."

He thought his basketball career might be over at age 19.

Free concert tickets: How to collect if you're part of the Ticketmaster lawsuit settlement (PS; Gore)

If you are one of the millions who overpaid Ticketmaster in recent years, you could have free tickets waiting for you.

Last month, Ticketmaster settled a $400 million class action lawsuit over exorbitant fees charged for things like order processing and shipping costs. The suit –Schlesinger et al vs. Ticketmaster – covers as many as 50 million people who purchased tickets from the company between Oct. 21, 1999 and Feb. 27, 2013.

Emails about the settlement have been sent out with information on how people can receive up to 17 discount codes to be used for future online ticket purchases. Each of the codes is worth a $2.25 credit and up to two can be used per transaction. If your tickets were delivered by UPS, you can get an additional $5 discount code per transaction that can be applied towards future UPS charges.

You will have until June 18, 2020 to use your codes.
