Syracuse basketball adds North Florida to its 2016-17 schedule (PS; Ditota)

Syracuse will play North Florida for the first time in basketball on Dec. 3, Orange officials announced today.

The Ospreys have won back-to-back Atlantic Sun regular season titles and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history in 2014-15. They played in the NIT this past season, losing to Florida 97-68 in the first round of tournament play.

They return the best player in that league, 6-foot-1 guard Dallas Moore. Moore, the reigning Atlantic Sun player of the year, initially entered his name in the NBA Draft this spring, but withdrew and returned to North Florida. He averaged 19.8 points and 6 assists per game as a junior last season.

North Florida was 22-12 last season, playing an ambitious out-of-conference schedule that included Illinois, Louisville, St. Louis, Dayton, Arkansas and VCU. The Ospreys lost in the Atlantic Sun title game to Florida Gulf Coast to deny themselves a second chance in the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Syracuse-North Florida game will be played in the Carrier Dome.

Rumor Central: Andrew White III visits Syracuse (espn; Johnson)

Nebraska transfer Andrew White III came away "impressed" after his weekend visit to Syracuse, according to a report from Mike Waters of Syracuse.com.

The Orange are currently only carrying nine scholarship players on their roster and are looking to add more able bodies in the transfer market and hope that White could help the roster plug a hole on the perimeter. The team is looking to add players adept on offense especially, after losing each of its three leading scorers from the team that made a surprising Final Four run.

"Had a really good visit with my parents at Syracuse," White told Syracuse.com. "The coaches seem to have a pretty good playing situation, along with a chance to win big." Since asking for his release on June 25, White has had many suitors, according to At their request, this network is being blocked from this site.'s Evan Daniels:

Huskers ready for life sans White (journalstar.com; Rosenthal)

Nearly two weeks have passed since Andrew White announced he was spurning his Nebraska basketball teammates to play his senior season elsewhere, and current Huskers remain unfazed by the loss of what would’ve been the team’s leading returning scorer and rebounder.

Sure, sophomore Michael Jacobson said, teammates were “bummed out” by the loss of White, a fifth-year wing who averaged 16.6 points and 5.9 rebounds while earning Big Ten Conference honorable mention.

Yet current players refuse to let White’s decision make or break the 2016-17 season.

“I felt like he would’ve helped out our team, but at the same time, it’s OK,” said Jacobson, a 6-foot-9 forward. “If he wants to leave, if he doesn’t want to be here, we don’t want him here, by any means.

"I’m totally fine with him leaving, if he thinks that’s the best decision for him. Go ahead. See you later.”

Kentucky is currently favored to sign top-10 prospect Hamidou Diallo

Five-star Class of 2017 prospect shows flashes of Andrew Wiggins at Peach Jam (cbssports.com; Norlander)

Part of the fun of heading out to the Peach Jam each year is seeing at least one previously unseen prospect who blasts off the floor (literally) and makes you clasp your breath.

Sure, the hardcore recruitniks know almost all of these guys by the time they're playing in 17U Peach Jam games. But really, this is the time where a handful of prospects can elevate their status, step up and perform in front of national media and every big program in America.

This year, one such mini supernova is Hamidou Diallo, a 17-year-old five-star prospect in the class of 2017 who -- to my callow recruiting eyes -- looks as effortlessly, athletically gifted as almost any prospect I've seen since Andrew Wiggins in the class of 2013. Diallo is not the surefire prospect Wiggins was, but he's a relentless dynamo on the court, a guy you can't help but watch constantly as he plays.

Best part? He's not just alley-oops and put-back slams. Diallo's defense is better than his offense. He's going to go to a big-time school, and when he gets there, he'll become one of the most watchable products in college hoops, and certainly a valuable player given how much pride he takes in defending. That's always a commodity. Great athletes should always be great defenders, but that's not the case every time. With Diallo, you get a well-rounded, compelling player.

Rain finally returns to Central NY today; severe thunderstorms possible (PS; Coin)

Rain should begin falling in Syracuse today forthe first time in 16 days, but it's unlikely to be much.

And there's a slight chance that the return of the rain could be accompanied by severe thunderstorms, with winds of 60 mph.

Here's what today could bring, according to the National Weather Service:

Rain. Expect a quarter of an inch or so through tonight, and another quarter inch on Saturday. That wouldn't be enough to break the drought; Syracuse is down more than 2 inches from normal since June 1, and nearly all of Central New York is in a drought .

Severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center says there's a 5 percent chance of severe thunderstorms, defined as storms with winds of 60 mph and large hail, in Central New York. Those thunderstorms could dump heavy rain in some spots, enough to cause flash flooding on roads and poorly drained areas.

Location. Light rain should be widespread across Upstate New York this morning, but the severe storms are more likely to occur from Oswego County to Binghamton, and into the Catskills.
