Oshae Brissett made Syracuse basketball history in win over Georgetown (PS; photo gallery; Nett)

Syracuse forward Oshae Brissett scored 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in the Orange's 86-79 overtime win at Georgetown on Saturday. Only one other Syracuse freshman has had at least 25 points and 14 rebounds in a game during Jim Boeheim's 42-year coaching career.

The 25 points and 14 rebounds were both career-highs for Brissett. In just 10 games this season, the 6-foot-8 forward has already recorded five double-doubles.

Here's a look at the other Syracuse freshman who had as many as 25 points and 14 rebounds in a game plus a few others who came up just short.

In its biggest challenge of the season so far, the Georgetown men’s basketball team (8-1, Big East) fell to rival Syracuse (9-1, ACC), 86-79 in overtime. The first loss of the season, and the Patrick Ewing era, for the Hoyas came after leading for most of the second half.

Junior center Jessie Govan led the Hoyas with 21 points to go along with his eight rebounds, and sophomore guard Jagan Mosely added 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists. For the Orange, sophomore guard Tyus Battle led all scorers with 29 and freshman forward Oshae Brissett finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds.

The game between these two historic rivals started off slow, with the Orange holding a 10-7 lead after 10 minutes of play.

“Both teams struggled so much offensively in the first half, it was painful,” said Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim. “Some of it’s defense, but it was mostly really bad offense.”

Georgetown couldn’t seem to break down the Syracuse zone in the half-court, but were able to score points in transition through Mosely and led 28-24 after halftime.

In the strictest of terms, the Georgetown Hoyas failed its only test of the 2017-18 nonconference slate, losing a 13 point second half lead in an 86-79 loss to Syracuse Saturday at Capital One Arena, the seventh consecutive overtime loss to an opponent at Capital One Arena dating to the 2008-09 season.

In a larger sense, however, the Hoyas proved to be a better team Saturday than its soft-serve scheduling would have suggested, and gave the Orangemen the kind of game fans have come to expect in the most heralded rivalry in Eastern basketball.

"Maybe the Hoyas needed an early string of cupcakes while they were adjusting to new coach Patrick Ewing's style," wrote Jeff Isenberg of Yahoo Sports. "But it's hard not to wonder if the Hoyas might have been more successful closing out the Orange on Saturday if this wasn't their first tight game against a good team."

CNN Host Fried Over Bacon 'Slur' at Syracuse Game (lite987.com; Coombs)

Games between Georgetown and Syracuse seem to bring out the unusual in people.

A decade ago, a rally by George Washington students to Healy Gates to protest Georgetown not scheduling GW was greeted by silence, in that most Georgetown students were otherwise at Verizon Center for the GU-Syracuse game.

Saturday, a political commentator went to Twitter to accuse a Georgetown student of anti-Semitism for wearing a bacon suit on national television.

Within the first of half of Saturday's game arrived this tweet from Hilary Rosen, a Washington-based lobbyist. She is apparently not a fan of breakfast fashion:

The individual in question is junior Michael Bakan (pronounced "Bacon") who regularly wears the outfit at games aside fellow student Nicolo Orozco, whose papal mitre and chasuble was not referenced in Rosen's outrage. But it didn't take long for the ill-informed political pundit to be grilled:

ACC notebook: Louisville freshmen answering the call (theathletic.com; Brown)

Louisville acting head coach David Padgett knew he’d have to play freshmen whenever he went to the bench. Beyond that, he didn't know what to expect from the likes of 6-foot-11 forward Malik Williams, 6-2 guard Darius Perry and 6-8 forward Jordan Nwora. As non-conference play winds down, Padgett is relieved he’s found the freshmen reliable.

“The good news is, you can put any of them in the game,” he says. “You don’t have the same sense of calming that you would have with a senior like Quentin (Snider) or Anas (Mahmoud), but you also know that they can go in and be productive and help us.”

For the Cardinals (8-2) to achieve any of their goals this season, the freshmen will have to continue to be productive. They get young quick whenever Padgett taps into the bench for a substitute. Two sophomores, 6-5 forward Wayne Sutton and 6-foot guard Ryan McMahon, were the only returnees from last season, and McMahon missed the first seven games with a rib injury.

Pair rescued from Oswego River after trying to save dog who fell through ice (PS; Doran)

Firefighters in Cody and Fulton in Oswego County rescued two people from the frigid Oswego River as they attempted to save a dog who had fallen through the ice Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place about 2:30 p.m. near Rivermist Road in the town of Cody, said Fulton Fire Chief David Eiffe.

The two people who were rescued were not identified.

Fulton firefighters assisted volunteers from the Cody Fire Department and New York State Police in the rescue. Firefighters and police were able to throw a rope to the man who was in the water and get him to shore, officials said.

The female, who had been able to hoist the dog into a kayak, was unable to return to shore on her own, Eiffe said. Firefighters, wearing ice rescue suits, were able to reach the woman and get her and the dog to shore.

The pair were treated for exposure at the scene, and there were no other injuries, fire officials said.

Eiffe said he did not know the dog's breed.
